orienteering 1:38:00 [3] *** 10.2 km (9:36 / km)

Blodslitet event, on the Butterfly Gully map amid damp pine plantation terrain. Originally chose a 14 km course for some endurance training, but didn't complete the course and gave up when on the second loop I ran to a control on the 3rd loop and then to the next 3rd loop control, with a thumbing error. Had difficulty concentrating after having bingled the car on the way to the event. Two cars 'met' on a narrow gravel road with a bend on a knoll. I was traveling a wee bit too quickly to slow enough to avoid the other car, and we sideswiped. I tried really hard to focus on the orienteering, but the crash beat me and I gave up. Should have stayed home today. Come to think of it, I should have stayed home all weekend!

orienteering race 1:53:00 [3] **** 9.8 km (11:32 / km)

Local orienteering at Apollo Hill. Set out on the 7.2 km course, and my brain was really turned off. Subtly contoured map with little detail, and all tracks had been erased, to make it harder. Just couldn't get comfortable reading the map at all. Made many errors, and traveled way too far and took way too long for such an event. Came in after course closure and was embarrassed to learn that one of our club members had gone searching for me - thought I'd dropped down a mine shaft or something!

run 31:20 [3] 5.25 km (5:58 / km)

Another cold & dark run - it's winter solstice this week, so it's going to start getting a bit lighter...it was good to have the pensioner along this morning. It was -0.5degrees - we saw no one else out at that time - not even the keen dog walkers were out.
