Saturday Mar 30 #

7 AM

Easy 15:00 [3] 2.5 km (6:00 / km)
slept:9.5

Had a solid sleep of 9.5 hours!
15 mins super easy pre breakfast.
4 PM

Fell/trail race 3:06:00 [3] 31.5 km (5:54 / km) +1350m 4:52 / km

Haven’t logged sleep as logged with 15 min run.
Had normal breakfast of oats and yoghurt. Plus had 3 small pancakes and a croissant. Breakfast 2/brunch at 1pm. Same food again.
Had 2km warm up jog + 4 strideouts 15 mins before start of the race.
Race
section 1 - 7km/500m climb. Ran all the way, breathing really heavily but stuck at it. There were a short flat bits that allowed me to recover a bit between up hills.
Section 2 - 3km/300m down. Felt really good and really tried to push the pace.
Section 3 - 3km/600m climb. Ranger first km, then mostly fast hiked the second half - I was moving near the same speed as a guy running near me was.
Section 4 - undulating 7km. Got twinges of cramp in both hamstrings about 1km in to this section. Eased off speed slightly and the cramp passed.
Section 5 - 12km/900m down. Felt really strong with lots of energy. About 6km before the end started to lag energy on flatte section. Finished feeling strong.
Really happy with how the race went. I pushed much harder than I normally would in the first 7km section but managed to recover from this effort within the race.
Drank 1 litre water + 3 plastic cups of electrolyte at check points.
It wasn’t very hot - probably 15 at the start and rainy/clap for 5km at the top.

Friday Mar 29 #

Easy + hill sprints 35:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:50 / km)
slept:9.0

Ran at 5pm to replicate heat for tomorrow.
Super easy 35 minutes + 4 10second/20% Hill sprints.
Felt fine.

Thursday Mar 28 #

Easy 34:00 [3] 6.0 km (5:40 / km)
slept:6.0

6 hours sleep + 1 on plane.
Drove 1 hour to airport then 4 hour flight. Did lots of stretching on the plane (quads, hip flexors mainly)
Took a packed lunch for the journey to make sure I ate well.
30 minutes easy run along coast line. Legs felt good.
Sniffles have gone and resting HR is normal too. It’s not too warm - perfect running conditions. Drank 3l water throughout day.

Wednesday Mar 27 #

6 AM

Easy + strideouts 45:00 [3] 8.5 km (5:18 / km)
slept:7.5

Good quality sleep but still woke at 5.
Easy 45mins + strideouts. Run felt far too short and I felt like running all day! (Guess that’s what tapering feels like!)
20 mins sauna.
Still felt a bit sniffly but no worse than yesterday.
Forgot to mention last couple of days, period started on Monday. Have noticed I have sweated more in sauna this week which could be related to period. Should finish tomorrow.

Tuesday Mar 26 #

6 AM

Easy + strideouts 50:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:00 / km)
slept:7.0

Woke up at 01:30 dozed for 90 mins then slept again from 3-6.
Had a 9am meeting so only had time for 50mins easy + 8 strideouts (60 mins was in the plan)
I don’t really look forward to strideouts but as soon as I start them I really enjoy them.
20 mins in sauna.
Felt a bit sniffly today. Hopefully a decent nights sleep will sort that.

Monday Mar 25 #

6 AM

Cycling 2:00:00 [3]
slept:7.5

Woke up early again - 04:45
Cycle to work and back
Surprised how easy cycling felt given I have cycled about 5 times since November!
36km
6 PM

S&C 45:00 [3]
slept:7.5

3 sets as per Thursday

Sunday Mar 24 #

Easy + strideouts 1:35:00 [3] 15.0 km (6:20 / km) +350m 5:40 / km
slept:7.5

90 minutes on easy tracks around Ilkley moor, strong wind so quite slow to keep effort easy. Felt really effortless and felt I could have carried on for hours. Nearly forgot about the time hence a few minutes longer than the planned 80 minutes.
8 srideouts on the road afterwards.
