| Tramping 4:00:00 [1] | ||
| Woke up to a freezing cold day. Boots, socks, and everything that had water in it was frozen solid. Went back to bed. Eventually courage returned and we headed up Sunshine ridge, disturbing snow laden tree branches. The ridge became quite steep above the bushline, and there was much crawling up through the snow. Foolishly we stopped on a small crest just below the summit, which had a nice view of Mt Owen, for a nice warm cup of soup. Of course we never should have stopped, for the moving was the only thing preventing our outer limbs from freezing. So with numb feet and hands the thought of crawling up the snow covered cliffs of the last section not sounding very appealing, we turned tail and spent the night in the hotpools. | ||

| Tramping 2:00:00 [1] | ||
| Tramping in Kahurangi. Mucked around for most of the day, exploring the Motueka and plying Rach with strawberry milkshakes. After such pursuits we didn't actually get started actually tramping until just after 4. With snow and cold weather everywhere we decided to go and have a look around Mt Owen from the south side. Initially we were going to head up the Bulmer creek, but it was getting a bit dark, wet, and cold and we decided to abandon that plan. And instead headed up Sunshine ridge and found a nice place for a tent about halfway to the bushline and a little below the snowline. | ||

| Easy run around the park. Shin still tender from wiping out on unseen fence crossing yesterday, but otherwise feeling better. | ||
