Orienteering race 1:15:00 [4]11 km (6:49 / km)
shoes: Sarva
One of those days that started out badly, and got worse and worse as it went along. Mucked up 1 after heading straight through the gorse and becoming confused. Spiked 2, but struggled in the vaguesness of the terrain up to 6, never seemed to get any particularly well. Need to trust my compass more.

The long road to 7 was a pretty nasty run. Felt my hamstring a bit on this leg, but it seemed to recover back in the forest, and was fine for the rest of the course. Placement of 7 seemed wrong to me, and I missed it.

9-10 was a horrible 500m gorse bash. Ended much too far left, so it probably would have been faster to go around.

Completely, and foolishly confused myself on 16. I tried to make sure I avoided the out of bounds, and went a little to far. I then decided that the edge of the out of bounds = edge of felled area = edge of map and mucked around on the number of possible track bends. But I was of course wrong, and was off the map. So after running in circles for a few minutes, cursing these easy controls before giving up and heading around the felled area until I found 17. Anyway from 17, 16 was easy, a track bend in an open field. Sadly it was concealed from my previous location by only a few metres and a grove of poplar? trees. It was a very frustrating trudge back there.

After the effort on that control I was somewhat annoyed and rather unconcentrated for the rest of the course. Dreamily ran down the wrong track to 20? which was silly, and the last few controls was just a case of trying to piece my map together which had disintegrated badly with no plastic bags being provided. 21 seemed to be in the wrong place too?

Also got horrible blisters which were quite painful for the last half of the race.

In conclusion, I think Georgia will be doing the navigating this weekend.

Running 35:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Triumph 3
Nice easy run, in the sun. Legs are feeling pretty heavy. Hamstring was mostly good but got a bit sore for the last 5mins, so I stopped.
Cycling - Road 1:40:00 [3]40 km (2:30 / km) +615m 2:19 / km
shoes: DMT road shoes
Cykling with Kris, Kat, and Kath around to Sumner and up the hills. 2nd puncture in as many days, oh my.

Friday Sep 28

Cycling - Road 59:00 [4]30.5 km (1:56 / km)
shoes: DMT road shoes
Rushed ride home, with detours to avoid cordoned bodies and punctures amongst the excitement.
Cycling - Road 1:15:00 [2]30 km (2:30 / km)
shoes: DMT road shoes
Easy recovery ride.

Thursday Sep 27

Running 33:00 [2]
shoes: Saucony Triumph 3
Morning run. Not particularly fast as that led to distress.
Cycling - Road 1:40:00 [3]40 km (2:30 / km) +615m 2:19 / km
shoes: DMT road shoes
Headed out to Sumner with the idea of a nice hamstring resting ride along the waterfront. Unfortunately that plan failed when I was tempted into some horrid race up Evans Pass. From there the only sensible place to go when trying to catch the afternoon sun is along the summit road, and so I did that.

Wednesday Sep 26

Strength 15:00 [0]
Core strength and physio exercises. No pop-ups.

Aquajog 1:05:00 [3]

Monday Sep 24

Running 1:05:00 [3]
shoes: Asics 2110 2.0
Running around the river to Joe's. Hamstrings quite sore after yest, so todays effort aimed at making sure I'm in as much pain as Georgia for our rogaine.
