| Cliff notes:
Had a good start and caught Matt at the fourth. Then I managed to get both of us lost on three consecutive controls, losing a good 5mins. Ended up on same time as Aaron with Carsten sneaking one min in front. Excellent start, picking good fast and safe routes for the first two controls and executed well. Perfect! At #3 I had about a 1:30 - 2:00 min lead on the rest of the field. Tried the straight option on #4, and it was slow and I got lost, losing about 1min. Met Matt at the control coming in from an entirely different direction to me, having cocked it up too. Cruised around with Matt, with reasonable accuracy until #8, had a nice 5min lead on Carsten by here... Then it all started to go a bit wrong. Missed my attackpoint on the way to #9 and instead of stopping entered the manuka without knowing exact position. Sadly I was little more than 50m off and ended searching lots of rocks before retreating to the clearing and relocating properly. Lost about 2:30. Poor feature selection on the way to #10 and I drifted off left, leading Matt on another aimless searching in the scrub, and another 2mins lost. And to make it three in a row, I misread the clearing on the way to 11 and headed off down the wrong one. Only 1:30 this time! For the rest of the course I was more concentrated and we slowed down a bit more towards the controls, esp 14 where we almost walked the last 100-150m cause it was so hard to spot the boulders in that bit of indistinct scrub. Fortunately Aaron lost 2-3mins on the 2nd to last, his only major mistake, but I picked a lousy route to the last and lost 30s so we ended up on the same time. Carsten lost 3mins on #1 and spent the rest of the course running fast to catch up, and ended up winning in about 38:25. Actually lots of people seemed to find #1 difficult, esp Georgia and ACW who spent 25mins.

| Long, long course. Was completely confused by some of the controls in the beech forest, still don't like the way so much is left off. Fortunately everyone else had the same problems, so I sneaked 20s in front of Carsten with Matt just behind him.
Well done to Aaron for tiring out Carsten with a long bike ride the day before.

| Long bays bunch ride. Pretty fast ride as some crazy dudes were trying to turn it into a race instead of a bunch ride. I was all weak and sleepy and got dropped. Aaron was patient and we cruised around in a group of 3 for the rest of the ride. | ||
