Sunday Mar 23

Running 30:00 [1]
shoes: Inov8
Very slow warmup today with r archilles, l foot, and both calves sore.
Orienteering 10:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8
Stuffed up the first control. Spent a great deal of time nearby the control verifying that that was not how I would map the contours. Then started contouring around to 2, but contouring put too much pressure on the toe, and became quite painful. Couldn't imagine getting around at any speed above a walk so went home.

Saturday Mar 22

Running 15:00 [3]
shoes: Inov8
Legs very stiff today :-(
Orienteering 34:40 [3]
shoes: Inov8
NZ Middle champs. Started carefully and went pretty well until I made a silly parallel error on 4 and spent some time hunting around on the wrong spur, and then when I recovered from that couldn't find 4 with it being too high and well hidden. After that was quite slow, and made small mistakes on 7 & 11 going down the wrong reentrant. Lost a further minute on the second to last when, once again I investigated the incorrect reentrant. Felt quite foolish.

Friday Mar 21

Event: New Zealand National Championships

Running 10:00 [3]
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch
Warmup for the sprint race. Haven't run in soooo long.
Orienteering 16:46 [5]
shoes: Saucony Fastwitch
NZ Sprint champs. Started carefully, but soon discovered the controls were quite easy. Felt pretty slow, mainly due to lack of running. Tried to take 12 quite straight through the lake, but missed the imaginary little mound it was on.
Pretty happy with how it went. Would have to do some training to get some improvement :-)

Thursday Mar 20

Cycling - Road 2:24:36 [3]55 km (2:38 / km) +1400m 2:20 / km
shoes: DMT road shoes
A hard day of hill climb interval type stuff. Quite a few short hill intervals and thrice up Evans at hard pace. Legs feeling pretty good, so finished off with an easy cruise over a few more hills.

With nationals this weekend I guess that is pretty much the last training for Le Race, and all is feeling pretty good. Hopefully my legs feel good for running this weekend.
Catching Features 1 [3]
Serious preparation for the weekend.

Wednesday Mar 19

Cycling - Road 1:23:36 [2]
shoes: DMT road shoes
A nice little ride up to the kiwi and saw the road was closed since there was a fire at the Bellbird. Probably Chris clearing out the gorse for the rogaine next Wednesday. Neither Cris nor I was feeling particularly inspired, so we cruised back down to the Horotane valley to see rogainers suffering on the hills.

Tuesday Mar 18

Cycling - Road 2:25:50 [3]77 km (1:54 / km) +670m 1:49 / km
shoes: DMT road shoes
Usual Tuesday bunch race. Greig and I did a pretty good job of controlling the peloton today, which made it a pretty enjoyable ride. I felt pretty good the entire time, which is unusual for me on a bike.
Cycling - Road 2:20:50 [3]66 km (2:08 / km)
shoes: DMT road shoes
A nice little lunchtime cruise out to Rangiora. Who wasn't outdoors on such a lovely day? Now I've gone, like 300km without a puncture. Marvelous.

Monday Mar 17

Cycling - Road 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: DMT road shoes
Well it was a rest day, but I couldn't resist a recovery type ride, if only because I felt I really shouldn't use my car for a little commute to Sumner on such a warm sunny day.

A few people have brought to my attention the awareness test. Go take a look and see how you go; I did poorly, much to my shame.
