Sunday May 4

Cycling - Road 1:22:30 [3]
shoes: DMT road shoes
Cruised up to the kiwi with Cris. Then the pace slowly increased across the tops until we were hammering along pretty hard. Pretty much the slowest descent of Evans as we were in a big queue of cars stuck behind a very slow tanker. Managed to get a good tow all through Sumner on the back of a car which is always good fun. Then back to hammering around the flats with Crispin.

Cycling - Road 1:14:28 [3]

Well, who could resist riding today? Not me for one, so I eagerly removed the glass shard from my tyre and replaced the tube, only to discover the only spare I'd been carrying around for the last month or two leaked horribly from the valve.

The only place to go today was up on the tops to play in the snow, so that is what I did, heading up to the kiwi, and then along the summit road. The council had been kind enough to close the road, giving me a very peaceful ride full of pretty snow dusted landscapes. Sadly the snow thinned to nothing by the time I reached Mt Pleasant, and the rain had well and truly settled in. Pretty much déjà vu as I headed down Mt Pleasant in the sleeting rain, trying to see the road and of course not come a cropper.

Of somewhat unusual note, about 75% of the cat-eyes just after Rapaki seem to have been destroyed, there remains scattered across the road. One can only speculate as to what predator was responsible for this.

Friday May 2

Cycling - Road 1:20:08 [3]
shoes: DMT road shoes
It was such a fine and beautiful morning for a ride, so Cris, Greig and I waited until after lunch to let the cloud settle in. By the time we reached the kiwi, and tiny little snowflakes were falling around us, our ambition of completing long bays circuit had withered somewhat. Still hoping for a bit of niceness we headed along the tops and enjoyed both the rain squalls and being blown across the road. Feeling a little soft we headed down Mt Pleasant at ridiculously slow speeds with numb hands and icy rain forcing eyes closed. A puncture heading back home was the perfect end to the ride. Of course there was no way I was stopping to fix it, and probably no way I could have fixed it if I did.

Thursday May 1

Cycling - Road 1:53:04 [3] 51 km (2:13 / km) +600m 2:06 / km

A bit of a cold day to go riding, where is summer gone?!@!@! Fortunately Jamie, being very dedicated to his training, insisted we go for a nice little ride around the hills. Actually in temperatures like this, the hills are the only place to go, trying to convert some of that nasty gravity into heat.

And so we cruised right along the tops to the tip of Godley head, and back along the flats.

Tuesday Apr 29

Cycling - Road 2:41:00 [3] 81.5 km (1:59 / km) +800m 1:53 / km
shoes: DMT road shoes
Usual Tuesday ride, with the main goal to make use of the Coffee Culture vouchers from Le Race before they expired on the 30th. It worked a treat with a large number turning up, including Em, Chris, Greig, Al, Cris, and Jamie who was keen to show his climbers legs. Fun was had back along the causeway drafting cars and hooning along at high speed without undue effort :-)

Felt pretty horrible for the whole ride after Gebbies, undoubtedly due to Greig who has been spreading his germs around.
