Solo Pentlands, legs feeling tired and tight but solid enough. Loads of people out, busiest I've ever seen it.
Solid week. 3 weeks of big uni stress coming up, will just keep training consistent and on the safe side. Now is crunch time, not made it through to going home without getting injured for the past 2 years.

WU. Nervous all morning, more butterflies than almost any race this year, felt a bit ill on this.

The showdown against Dan had been hyped up a lot, both in the flat and publically, and it was great because we were both so sure we could beat the other. I spend almost all day every day with him and somehow we hadn't raced since the fresher's Hill Race in 2017, where he won by 23s. So serious bragging rights on the line.
Got boxed in at the start, lots of pushing and shoving, and Dan had a sizeable lead after a few hundred metres, and he stayed ~10-20 places ahead up the first climb. Didn't panic though and avoided pushing hard up the steep bits. Spotted Dan looking a bit weaker on he descent and by the bottom it was only ~5 places. Happily sat a few people behind and tried to relax as much as possible. Coming down towards the finish I came up behind him (and Dan A) and got a bit nervous as to whether I had it in me, and felt a little ill knowing how much the second hill might hurt. Came alongside past the start/finish and he said "Haha you b*stard", and I replied "now the race starts".
Edged ahead and knew I couldn't let it slip, felt like I was working a little hard but the mental difference of behind just ahead rather than just behind is massive. Inched it out and sensed a small gap. First steep bit was horrible and if Dan had come past there that would've been it, but then got up to the top, kicked past a couple guys and hammered the descent. This worked well and had a gap by the bottom. Tried to keep up the effort and spotted Tom ahead which helped. Had a couple of worried looks but was all good so could enjoy the last k.
Job done. Relieved.

WD. L calf tightened up a lot but otherwise ok, very dead though.
Gym. Went for bran flakes instead of coffee and it worked pretty well.

Felt dead after uni but got out the door eventually. Did a lap at 5:20s feeling cold and with a sore shin, but then met Jack, Dan, Dougie and Alex M at dvc and perked up with some steadier miles. Finished up with 4 x 30s hill sprints on the Links on tarmac where I got convincingly binned.
Slept in this morning so squeezed in a lunchtime swim.

Easy seat from the gym. Bumped into Finn at the far end of the KF so had a chatty run up through the bog, then down and round for a solo Crags climb. Shin not liking descents but asked physio about it and she said bruised bone, might take 2-3 weeks to get better but can't do any damage running through it so I plan to plough onwards.

5 x 6mins (1min) on the KF. 3:49, 48, 49, 52, 52 at 164, 71, 75, 75, 76.
Another tough one in the bag, working hard for slow paces but ground conditions still pretty sloppy. Thought I'd overcooked it after the 4th and but having Lewis alongside pulled me through the 5th. L shin (bash) pretty painful on downhills/higher impact steps but not getting any worse so think it's ok to run through? Not sure if I can do any damage.
Monday morning plod, shin good enough to run without a limp and could distinguish that pain from the occasional feeling from last week's niggle on the same shin. Bumped into Boyan so turned and did 3/4 of a lap with him.
