C2H5K Day 26 - Mission accomplished!
Persistence and a strong mental effort has got Ellie to be able to run the full 5km and 160m of climb, including the lower Keighley Gate.
A massive achievement.
Well done Ellie

Hillbilly Deluxe
Oh go on then. I'll go for a short run.
Chosen route was a hill fest, into the wind.

Great to get out though. Right leg felt more normal than it has before. Still unable to sprint on flat ground, but maybe some hope.

C2H5K Day 23 - Ascent of the North Face of Keighley Gate (Lower section)
Shorter run today, because Ellie wanted to try running the Keighley Gate section. And she did. Easier than she expected, I think.

Progress is good.

Right calf tight and grumbly. Tried to bounce more to work other things a little. Tried a few "sprints" - lacking the push off power - "wooden leg" really noticeable when I do things like that. It's like the numbness you have after pins and needles.

C2H5K Day 22 - Westward Ho!
Full 5km loop, included running the first stretch through the woods. And a stiff south westerly to battle up the long drag.
Good work from Ellie.
Right calf stiff and a little grumbly, but gentle enough pace to be ok.
12 PM

Found this injury archive which seems to describe a similar situation to mine:

Finally have been given the correct diagnosis of sciatica, the cause of all my problems! My piriformis is compressing my sciatic nerve, causing pain through the lateral portion of my hamstring and through my patella tendon. Also causing muscle weakness and numbness through the hamstrings and gastrocnemius, which has made controlling the right leg very hard!

Really important to keep up regular strecthing in my particular case where my piriformis muscle was the culprit compressing my sciatic nerve. Consistant stretching helps lengthen the muscle and release the tension on the nerve and allow normal nerve function.

Terrain Running 48:16 [3] 8.03 km (6:01 / km) +236m 5:14 / km
ahr:137 max:154 shoes: Mudclaw 300 (Tango)

Too Much, Too Soon?
Pushed it a little bit harder this morning. Still about a minute and a bit slower up to the top of rocky valley (2km in)
Opened up a little along the top, but calf started to complain bitterly after 5km.
Right leg generally tired and grumbly for the last couple of km. Ice, and rest I think.

Spring has sprung!
Foggy start, but broke through quickly.
Everything screamed Spring!
It smelled like spring, there was sunshine, the smell of the peat, some warmth.
Saw the deer again. Like most days :)
Still some ice around, but mostly turning to mud, albeit with a firm frozen permafrost underneath :)
Right calf tired and making its presence felt. Tried to encourage toes and foot to work more.
But progress.
