Orienteering race 1:09:08 [4] 8.07 km (8:34 / km) +413m 6:49 / km

loughrigg brown
very much enjoyed
set off pretty confidently, spiked #1 and caught up cate who started a minute before me. then she went down for #2 and i stayed high and dropped into it and i got there way before she did so i’m pretty happy with that route.
#3 was follow the trod for 100m to the control.
then stood there for a second working out where to go to #4 before deciding i just needed to go up the hill, but i ended up going round the bottom a bit and then coming in on a less steep part which i think worked for me but was very much off the line so a lot of extra distance there.
#5 was the only leg i didn’t enjoy, i had most of a route in my head but then i saw daisy who started 2 mins after me coming into #4, i panicked and decided not to take my original route that went around all the rocky stuff and instead went straight through it. then i got even more stressed because i couldn’t run through all the scree so i felt so slow, got distracted and didn’t know where i was so i just went all the way to the edge of the rocks and then came back in to the control which wasn’t too much extra but still not ideal.
#6 was by far my favourite leg (mainly because it was all downhill) but i absolutely loved that, i did forget to look at the map to get into the control so slowed right down at the end but would have had to do that anyway tbh so that probably worked out better.
i got to the rough area of #7 absolutely fine, but i think this was the only control where the paths would have helped because i was too high up and i knew that but i didn’t know which side of the path the control was on, so i was wandering round there for maybe 2 mins before i realised it was further down.
#8 was good, a lot of hesitation in the circle but i was right
i think i didn’t take the best route to #9, i went up out of #8 and along the top to drop into it but ended up way too high, had to go down to go back up into the control so that was a bit of a waste of time.
almost decked it many many times on the run in but managed to stay on my feet and dodge all the walkers.

i am still a bit unfit and was struggling a lot on the hills especially towards the end, a lot of my routechoice was based on how best to avoid the hill because i know how much it slows me down. really really enjoyed this though!

easy jog round lancaster with alex
he told me we would do a trail run so i didn’t bring road shoes. that didn’t turn out well.
legs feeling a bit dead but i’ll blame that on walking round sheffield all day (20,000 steps before i ran) and then sitting in the car for ages after.
bit of a weird feeling not knowing where i am and not having a map, especially when alex made me take a leap of faith over a fountain twice (no wet feet though) and it was dark. finally putting the headtorch away after this and that’s it until the peter palmer’s in september i believe!

Note

busy day + travelling all evening so no time to run. probably a good idea rest week wise anyway

Running 29:51 [3] 4.63 km (6:27 / km) +59m 6:04 / km
shoes: nb road shoes

easy jog with sophie
dragged her out of bed for this and in return she made me go to the park and on the swings so pace is a bit slow because i forgot to stop my watch for like 5 minutes.
nice easy pace and would have gone a bit further but she would not stop complaining and then refused to do any more

Running 26:35 [3] 5.35 km (4:58 / km) +65m 4:41 / km
shoes: nb road shoes

what was supposed to be another very easy run ended up as some kind of biathlon of running and then pumping up a car tyre because my friend only had a tiny pump and i ran past him twice and he was complaining his arms were tired and made me help. then i ended up running at some sort of not threshold but not easy pace either. bit of a shambles tbh but surprisingly enjoyable and my legs don’t even feel that tired so that’s good

Running 53:09 [3] 7.66 km (6:56 / km) +64m 6:40 / km
shoes: Inov8 X Talon 230

very easy jog down the river with jamie, helen, bea + paddy
everyone else was doing intervals but i want to properly have a week off so i went along for a nice chat instead.
some lovely drizzle at the end did mean i was glad i brought a jacket even though i was a bit hot to begin with
also i ventured down waste lane on the way home expecting to have to wade through brambles and stuff but actually it’s all gone and now there’s just rubbish on the floor everywhere. lives up to the name i guess
legs felt good but these shoes need to go in the bin, they are almost completely flat on the bottom it’s not good
