hmm very very very sore ankle, don’t remember doing anything to it yesterday but hurts to walk and run this morning

Orienteering race 1:25:03 [4] 11.11 km (7:39 / km) +175m 7:06 / km

jukola leg 5!!
only had one hour of sleep because our team were doing better than expected how dare they!! did not want to go out, it was so so so cold but fine once i got on with it. i was thriving on the 1.6k to the start kite, got overtaken by 7th leg of teams 5, 3, 8 and 11 which was exciting. wondered if i could finish before them (they had 6k longer than me) but they beat me rip. some only by a couple mins though!! had a really sore ankle still for basically just the run out, it went away once i got into the forest so maybe only the road running is affecting it?

actual orienteering wise it was okay, i think me being quite exhausted didn’t really help but managed fairly well i think. this was a lot harder in terms of there were so many people out and they could have been on legs 4, 5, 6 or 7 and i had no idea, also they were mainly men and there weren’t really any trains (ones i could keep up with at least). i think me being 10 mins slower really isn’t that bad tbh.

up to the first radio control was all pretty good, ran past gus bergman as i was coming out of #4 and then he overtook me again right at the radio control!! after this was all good, the leg out of #6 felt like it went on forever and ever but managed to stay roughly in a straight line. absolute disaster at #9, just seemed like nobody else was going to my control, me and this like 12 year old were wandering round for ages trying to find it. eventually just ignored all the tracks and got there myself. another mistake on #12, again just following tracks and not paying enough attention to where i was actually going. got so incredibly frustrated because after #13 this man was running right behind me along all the tracks and every time i slowed down and moved to the side he slowed down too ugh. got rid of him on the path after #15 though. bit slow to #16, not going far enough. had been to both #17 and #18 before at venla but still managed to fail to find either of them. found three different controls on the way to #18. after this was all fine, so happy to be finished THEN as i ran in from the last control i turned round and who was behind me?? gus bergman!!!!!!!!! we punched the last control at the same time and he only just beat me on the run in, bit embarrassing for him tbh. made it on tv as well go me!!

such a fun event, really really enjoyed both races and such a good experience!! definitely will get more sleep if (when) i do it again though :))
7 AM

Running warm up/down 4:00 [2] 0.52 km (7:42 / km)

most undedicated warm down ever, did walk to the tent and back 3 times though = 4.5k so think that counts tbh

annoyed jog when i found out i had to wait 15 mins to start because of the mispunch, we had to be 45 mins behind the leaders because obviously i was going to catch up 30 mins on tove alexandersson…

Orienteering race 1:14:07 [5] 10.97 km (6:45 / km) +129m 6:23 / km

venla leg 4!!!
official time was 1:33 but i was actually running for 1:17 because i had to wait before they gave me my map. would have got me to around 200th on my leg, and i think the whole team to around 110th!! such a fun race and really happy with my run :))

only a couple mistakes, found a different gaffle before mine at #1 but then just followed everyone else looking confused and found mine. very hesitant on #2 once i was in the open bit and again found another gaffle before mine but then worked out where that control was and got to the right one. didn’t go far enough to #4, saw the open part and realised. next few were good, i was in a little train with a few girls until #7 where after the drink stop i ended up on a track just in a massive queue all of us walking behind someone slow at the front. it was in like a marshy bit with really thick undergrowth stuff so it was really hard to get round and overtake. i was a bit frustrated by the time we got out of this, then everyone i was with must have been on third leg because they all went to a different control to me then i spent ages trying to get out to the path because i couldn’t find any tracks out of #8. nice long path leg then some very enjoyable controls at the far end before another path leg where i was at the back of a train of like 8 of us (one from stora tuna so basically i ran with tove alexandersson) and we ran the next few together until we spit to different controls for #17. next few were all good until everyone i was with just didn’t go to my next control, they must have all been third leg but literally could have sworn some of them had yellow bibs? maybe they got lost i don’t know. ended up just me and one other woman wandering round for ages until we eventually found it. then got caught up by a few girls, one of which asked me what control i was going to (in finnish first rip) then we all got a bit confused together, found a different control before eventually all working together and found the right control. then we all had a nice sprint finish and we never spoke to each other again!

really really enjoyed this, and feeling properly exhausted afterwards which is good because i feel like most races i never try hard enough and i still have energy after

training
oh dear
with issy and daisy, we got so extremely lost (definitely not my fault) and wandered round for so long, eventually found what we were looking for and then euan and sunley caught us up so we ran after them back. elapsed time is double this but we were doing like 20 min kms and then 7 min kms with euan so maybe this cancels it out? hopefully this weekend doesn’t go this badly eek

strava says i did 200m of climb but garmin says 20????? not sure what to believe

well the plan was to run today but ended up being roped into the primary schools league final plus a trip to the phone shop so had absolutely no time in the end

family jog
ate too soon before this and so was feeling violently ill the entire time and had to go home early rip. also trapped my finger in something which while it doesn’t affect my running was very painful and i’ll take any excuse to save me from the embarrassment of being dropped by sophie + my dad

was supposed to go swimming with my mum and her injured calf tonight but the session was sold out :( really should take advantage of the pool literally 20 metres from my house though
