Finally managed the 5+ I’ve attempted too many times and even got up a 6A - much to be improved but very happy for my lack of experience :)))

Followed the intervals around, not feeling up to the faster pace but managed to do a nice 5k in the end
Feeling pretty good after the weekend, but struggling to eat enough, and my chest is very tight and wheezy and a cold is lingering
Never do any flat 5K’s so embarrassingly this is marked as my quickest

Started off today in the dry, managed to pack kit before it rained which was brill, but half way through marking up the maps it started pissing it down (made trickier by the fact I lost my pen....) so headed off with 1 map marked and mine with nice red smudges everywhere
First four controls were around Wee Binnian which was quite a nice easy plod up the hill. Left the start with the Elwood’s on our tail but they contoured round to two instead of up and over and we didn’t see them again. Stupidly marked control three as three rather than any order which gave us a nasty route to what we chose as 5. Had 8 controls in a cluster of any order which provided some deep thoughts on routes. Hit our 5 too high, but thought it was too low, so we were scrambling around some tors for ~15mins trying to find it, before realising it was way down below us
After that we were pacing it the whole way, knowing that we could have lost 3-4 places with that mistake and route choice
Followed along Ben Crom Reservoir which was some speedy running and then up to Hares Gap. The last four in the cluster were quite simple - we went from left to right pretty much then ran down the river
My bag, my map and I found a very deep bog and came away looking a little damp:)))
Still no sign of any of the top teams so we kept on powering along, desperate to try and catch them up
Finished in the school playing fields which was a lovely run in
Turns out we beat the Elwood’s by 5 minutes on day 2, but we got overtaken by fourth place by 5 minutes so in the end we came 4th (but still only 15 mins behind second)
A little sad that that mistake cost us a place but we were only hoping for a top 10 result, so very chuffed overall
