Not sure really what all to say!

Race went very smoothly in terms of no vomiting etc. I found the start hard, particularly the 'runable' sections up signal hill and I walked parts of it. I imagine I lost a bit of time here compared to the top runners (who probably ran it all) but I didn't know if it was pushing too much too early.

I stopped to stretch my glutes at two different points. glutes and hip area felt tight and very tired! Particularly by 70km.

Big crash in energy around 76K.

I then managed to really step it up a gear (it felt like I did anyway, maybe I didn't) after popping a couple of gels with caffeine. I was being wrongly told my position as being 4th or 5th. Then I got more reliable info that I was 7th and this triggered me to speed up as I wasn't having this! This was around 80K.

Its a funny feeling being 6th and so close to 5th, 4th etc but not having actually raced with those girls this whole day (didn't see them at all after the start line). I need to put myself up there sometime soon. I have more in me for sure, mentally I need that race I think also or I will go in cruise mode (what I did when I heard I was 5th...).

This mornings run felt very sluggish! The legs felt heavy for some reason. Hips felt a bit tight so i stopped and stretched after a couple of Ks then resumed.

4 stride outs with jogs in between after the 45 easy

Easy run and 4 stride outs 1:08:56 [2] 9.59 km (7:11 / km) +219m 6:27 / km
slept:9.5 shoes: new fujitrabuco pro

my sleep got a bit disrupted last night as I thought there was an animal of some sort in my room.. something was scratching around. Not fun.

I had a half hour nap in afternoon.

I ran tonight with the organised group as part of the race. Very easy... walking at many points as so many people. Left foot slightly tight at times. It was about an hour trail run and then I did 4 stride outs with walking in between since I had done extra time on the feet already.

I got a very gentle massage today also - 1 hour - I will add. He did work into the foot a little, nothing too severe though.

moderate run 1:00:12 [3] 13.72 km (4:23 / km) +21m 4:21 / km
slept:9.8 shoes: dynaflyte 3

I felt good on this run (until about 50 minutes when I needed the toilet.. and there weren't any toilets = stressful).

Occasional tightness in my left foot arch but it seemed to pass. The usual ups and downs were experienced in terms of effort - feeling I had gone to fast then feeling I had gone to slow I suddenly was feeling so good.

Tired again at 4.30pm...

felt good, no major niggles or anything. it was quite hilly in places so I just took it very easy. bumped into Emily Hawgood, last year's 100K winner about 20 mins in and she joined me for 30 mins or so. My easy run was about 1hr 10 and then i did 4 stride outs.

had a nice lunch and coffee with Beth today! she is so lovely!

very tired again at 5pm!
