Shocking. Just utterly shocking. Head wasn't in the game and shoes fell to pieces (like actually. The soles came off). Thank God I had something to blame my otherwise dreadful run on...

It was also very, very cold, and I regret going out in the snow and wind with only a t-shirt on. What a mare. Very, very grateful to whoever invented the sauna.

Easy run round the Beacon area, with a loop in Pan's Labyrinth. Mud is just stupid now. Very, very done with every step being a fight. Hooray for a screwed up climate! This run didn't do much to calm my post-compute lab rage, but at least no one was in A&E when I got home. Every cloud!

Little morning session. WU to soggy, soggy Brockington, 4, 4, 3, 3, 2, 2 minutes efforts (around 4:00s, some a bit faster (ahem, first rep, dropped a 3:45 km whoops), some a tad slower) off 90s recovery. WD jog back home with a few strides (I think they're strides).

Hate morning sessions. Was good to get this done.

V muddy Beacon hill loop. Didn't use a headtorch until I got to the top. Was nice.

The combination of holes in shoes plus holes in socks was somewhat unpleasant. Reckon both still have a good few more miles in them yet though! Just not together.

Run to the departmental seminar from home. Bit late. Can't wait for hands to heal enough to be comfortable using a bike again! On the plus side, this is good for building run mileage.

Couldn't figure out how to stop all my activities from automatically being interval sessions on my watch so accidentally did a device reset and lost all my data. Good thing I remembered the pace and distance of each activity.

Circuits 43:00 [3]

LUOC circuits. I planned a tough core-focused one for this week by a (later regretted) request from one of our members. Hehe. Also made it a "no hands" session (for my benefit).

Exercises performed as 45s on/15s rest, each exercise was performed 3 times before moving onto the next one. Repeated the set twice and took 4 minutes rest between sets.
Set: (front, elbow) plank, (air) squats, sit ups, calf raisers, Russian twists (ouch).

Bolton's hip routine (45s per exercise, no rest between exercises, repeat each set for each leg).
Set: clam, side leg lifts, forward leg circles, backwards leg circles, front/back foot taps.

Did a few stretches and my cool down was sort of also my track session warm up. Two birds, one stone!

Run intervals 59:14 [4] 11.46 km (5:10 / km) +51m 5:03 / km

LSAC track session: 6 x 600m (90s recovery). These sessions are fast but they're short too, nothing like the SAC sessions at home. I miss those sessions, but this works out well for a track session after circuits!

600s were run in about 2:10-2:12. Pretty consistent! Last rep was fastest.

Observation: I wasn't last for any of the reps! Yes I was still at the back but not last!! Can feel like I'm getting stronger, yay :D

Monday Feb 24 #

LUOC Monday run. Was really up for further, but no one else was so we just looped round Outwoods. Probably best with having to non-functional hands; I was v paranoid about falling on them again and the throbbing could have been a bit less unpleasant. Decent pace for a club run with minimal stops. Everyone was a similar pace. Happy days.

Note: Went back to A&E at 10pm to check out a potential infection in Ali's lip (111 recommended). We left at 3:30am. Starting to really dislike being in A&E now. And yeah. The 6:45am wake up for work really sucked.

Sunday Feb 23 #

Easy Bradgate loops with Matt. Felt like the legs had nothing; the occassional headwind and rain probs didn't help. Took a fall after running the trods through the crags. More blood, and my left thumb is quite sore... can't put any pressure on it or move it much. Not good when you have to be able to use my hand to compensate for Ali's being out of action! Also grazed the legs, chin and sternum, but those aren't bad. Headed back to the car after this.
