Warmup 12:10 [1] 1.0 km (12:10 / km)

Stretching was 6'20.

Orienteering 1:09:38 [3] 8.8 km (7:55 / km) +325m 6:41 / km
ahr:161 max:169 spiked:11/13c

Huckleberry Hillside Hunt Day 2, Blue. Control 2 was mis-described; I spent time looking for a 2 m cliff whereas there wasn't a cliff at all (Andy saw the bag from the road—also about 1.5 contours lower than it was supposed to be, but can't blame the mappers—they had warned us). After that, I couldn't get the HR up but was feeling very light, and felt like I could up the speed. Fell before #10 and got a 3/4"×1/2" stick into the pad of my right hand. The bleeding stopped before I got to the finish, very little pain.

Medium pace running 6:49 [3] 1.3 km (5:15 / km)

Ran to the start of Huckleberry Hillside Hunt Day 1. Was occupied with downloading the HR for the rogaine the whole morning. Was a minute late but the start time wasn't preprogrammed.

Orienteering 1:31:31 [3] 11.3 km (8:06 / km) +475m 6:42 / km
ahr:164 max:172 spiked:9/13c

Huckleberry Hillside Hunt Day 1. Blue. A good run until #12, and a discombobulation on #13 + the run-in. Felt tired and felt the Thu ab crunches, surprised to only be 2 minutes behind Andy and one behind Eric until #12.

Rogaining 1:54:20 [1] 7.0 km (16:20 / km)

Control pick-up at the HHH. I wanted to run Green but they'd only let me do control pick-up. So slow because I picked up 150 m of White/Yellow streamers.
During Day 1, I zigzagged through the unmapped vegetation, choosing the path of least resistance no matter how much longer the distance turned out to be. I originally thought that it was a net time loss to do so, and was disappointed about a 4.6 minute, 264 m leg 5, on which I basically took a 90 degree turn, out to the open as "fast" as possible, then along the boundary of the open. I walked the same leg during the pick-up along the straight line. I immediately got stuck in unyielding high bushes, and most of the 264 m was crawling—hardly doable in under 5 minutes.

Running with weights 23:52 [1] 3.7 km (6:27 / km)

Had some feelings in the achilles tendon last night and this morning. This run gave more feelings.

Easy running 34:58 [2] 4.72 mi (7:24 / mi)
ahr:148 max:164

Treadmill. Feelings gradually went away.

Strength training 12:00 [2] 0.0 km

4 sets of (4×(12 reps within 45")): 2 sets abs, 2 sets back. First time in 3 months. I was not surprised that my back and internal muscles felt like crap the first of those months, but after early July, I had no more back problems. Strange. Still not a reason to not return to occasional strength training (the treadmill alone is worth the health club fees).
W = 166.

Easy running 3:00 [2] 0.6 km (5:00 / km)

Warmup for the track today was chasing the #55 bus.

Warmup 3:00 [1]

Stretching at De Anza. Nobody else showed up.

Short intervals 12:37 [5] 2.6 km (4:51 / km)

The planned session was short, but given my tendon's state, the upcoming A-meet at altitude, and no company, I shortened it up even more, and took it slow. I did 200 + 400 + 600 + (600 got deleted) + 400 + 200 with 200 m slow rest. 32.3 74.4 123.2 76.1 33.4.
The tendon felt fine.

Easy running 26:21 [2] 5.1 km (5:10 / km)

I suppose this wasn't productive as far as training for better rogaines. But it sure felt like fun. Beer is like that, too.

Easy running 10:13 [2] 2.0 km (5:07 / km)

Warmup at De Anza. WIth Dan Greene and Tapio.

Warmup 10:00 [1]

Long intervals 31:54 [4] 6.8 km (4:41 / km)

3000 + 2000 + 1000 with 400 m full rest. 10'58 7'33 3'34. I couldn't move any faster than I did, despite the nice weather conditions. Tapio did 3000 + 1000 much slower, and Dan, most of the 3000.

Note

ST = 652 (R = 40). A day off. Need a couch at work. On a second thought, maybe I like this job too much for the couch move. This job actually pays money.
