LAOC B meet at Mt. Piņos. Red. I experienced a significant loss of concentration for the first two controlswas it the lack of sleep, the altitude, or both? After that it went OK; knowing the particular places where the map was flaky in advance helped a lot. Still, I made a 6-min error in the middle; one of the mappers made a similar error (but recovered much quicker), that should say something.
Orienteering 47:13 [3]5.7 km (8:17 / km) +140m 7:23 / km

LAOC Mt. PiņosGreen. Almost clean, slow.

Warmup at De Anza. Alone.
Warmup 4:35 [1]0.3 km (15:17 / km)
ahr:107 max:153
Stretching and one stride.
Race pace running 18:31 [5]5 km (3:42 / km)
ahr:174 max:183
I ran a 5K on the track at De Anza. I had been planning to run a race on Monday September 2; it was the only day in the fall weekend schedule free of other orienteering and running activities. I entered a 5K in Davis. I decided against going on Sunday because the $50 for the train and $50 for the hotel didn't seem too exciting (them extended European trips do have a downside). Steve Gregg went in my place and ran an 18:18 (as "Vladimir Gusiatnikov"). I guess I owe him 13 seconds (works out to $1.92 per second).
I was quite disappointed about today's outcome (1:43 behind the PR and about the same as 1999; certainly faster than 2000 and 2001 but that doesn't say much). It did not feel hard and I was not tired. Rather, I just settled into 90's pace and did not seem to have a faster gear.
Short intervals 19:53 [4]4 km (4:58 / km)
ahr:154 max:169
10×200 with 200 m rest, following the 5 km. 38.5 40.3 40.2 39.1 38.8 38.0 39.3 37.6 37.8 39.1.
The track was empty tonight.

Tuesday Sep 3

Note
I did not go running today.

Monday Sep 2

Easy running 24:18 [2]5.1 km (4:46 / km)
ahr:144 max:168
Baylands, after dark. Some birds.
Note
Was looking through the office in search for the source of a funny smell. I found about 0.5 kg of cheese molding away underneath the false bottom of my travel bag (the cheap ones, they acquire a false bottom after a while). I've been breathing the stuff for at least a month; it explains the source of Thursday's and today's headaches better than too much training. Hope there aren't little glioblastomas sprouting around.

Sunday Sep 1

Easy running 13:45 [2]2.5 km (5:30 / km)
Chasing buses and stuff.
Easy running 14:46 [2]2.6 km (5:41 / km)
Warm-up in the Presidio (SF Muni #45 last stop to Fort Winfield Scott). Turned out to be over some of the course to be covered later.
Warmup 1:00 [1]0 km ( / km)
Stretching.
Orienteering 1:05:31 [4]10 km (6:33 / km) +120m 6:11 / km
ahr:169 max:177 spiked:9/12c
BAOC event at the Presidio, Long Orange. Had almost nothing to eat since yesterday (some Gookinaid) due to my successful morning mass transit experience, and a Safeway that wasn't. That wasn't what got me beat by Syd by 56 seconds; there were a trap, a bingo control, and a genuine map-reading boom during which people stood pointing fingers at me and laughing.
