Orienteering (Marathon pace) 49:57 [2] 9.7 km (5:09 / km)
spiked:21/25c

An event at Stanford. I won. Goal was to run at MP. I did.

Orienteering (Marathon pace) 1:10:08 [3] 14.0 km (5:01 / km)
max:185 spiked:24/27c

A night, 70-min score-O at Stanford. I was in the lead of the train, following the obvious score-O order and moving close to the intended MP, when I did a 180 on Campus Drive (had no compass). Did a 9-min tour of the graduate student ghetto. Got back on the map and actually almost had time to get all 27 controls, but this required accelerating to well above MP. Beaten by Mark Prior (64:44), Thorsten, and Tapio.

Easy running 54:12 [2] 10.2 km (5:19 / km) +52m 5:11 / km

Baylands ×2. At night. 26:42 27:30. The wind was down the Valley, and the air quality was just im-{_¢«ñ-possible. Was ready to throw up when I came back, and passed up on the strides.

Internal-combustion engines must be outlawed.

Easy running 1:51:25 [2] 20.5 km (5:26 / km) +75m 5:20 / km

Jim's NWR run; with Jim. Sunny, windy, and cold. Many people, many birds. Lots of mud (part of the reason why so slow).

Easy running 40:04 [1] 7.1 km (5:39 / km) +40m 5:29 / km

First run of the day: work to the Wolfe Safeway, stopping at the Arques FedEx. There will probably be no second run, based on how I felt.

Medium pace running (Threshold intervals) 24:34 [3] 4.4 km (5:35 / km)

Felt crappy indeed, but made my way out to De Anza to keep company to people. Syd and Tapio were there. I was only going to "supervise" their VO2max intervals, but seeing Tapio do a first 83 lap, got changed into running clothes and paced him for the next 3 of the 4×1200 (400 rest). 4:47 4:51 4:52 (Tapio's first was 4:48 and the goal was 4:50).

Syd averaged 4:21, with a 4:20 goal. Neat. If I'd done 4:20s, I'd be toast for the rest of the week.

Running with weights 21:47 [2] 3.8 km (5:44 / km) +20m 5:35 / km

Ran along Lawrence as a warm-up. Windy today.

Medium pace running (Threshold plus Long) 1:33:04 [3] 13.25 mi (7:01 / mi) +107m 6:51 / mi
ahr:167 max:190

Daniels' TLT-1: 2×(10 min at T + 1 min rest) + 60 min easy + 10 min at T. The first T's went fine, mostly at 10.0 but up to 10.4. Towards the end of the E, the HR was in the low 170s—interesting! On the last T, I could endure about 90 seconds at 10.0, hit the threshold, and had to gradually slow down all the way to 9.0, at which pace I did about 3 minutes. The HR still went UP TO 190!! I didn't know I had a HR like this. (Most likely, the receiver on the treadmill was broken, and I was too excited to turn on my own HRM. It was enticing for a bit to think that the timebase on the treadmill was probably off, and maybe because of that the treadmill's speed was too high, until I realized that a slow timebase would also mean a slower speed. Duh.) Finished at 10.4.

W = 161.

Note

Lost a toenail to the workout.

Running with weights 27:28 [2] 4.8 km (5:43 / km) +20m 5:36 / km

Try again, in the morning... feels like maybe OK to train. The run was to the Lawrence bank branch, and back only to the bus stop at Oakmead.
