Easy running 17:25 [2] 3.5 km (4:59 / km)

Early morning, home to the Safeway. For food and NY Times.

Running with weights 21:01 [1] 3.5 km (6:00 / km) +36m 5:43 / km

Back home, with food and the NY Times.

Easy running 1:56:43 [2] 21.3 km (5:29 / km) +75m 5:23 / km

In the afternoon (a HOT one), the levees. Took a wrong turn by Moffett and ended up in a Hitchcock movie. First there were about 500 pelicans having a meeting on the levee, sitting on the wrong-turn trail. They slowly left, one by one, as I approached... landing off to the left in the Bay. Then, about 1000 ducks. Then, more pelicans. Then, more ducks... then, goats.

Note

A dismal week. Had morning commitments both Thursday and Friday, then work... Visited the new place today to sign the rent. Palace of Cubic Zirconia.

Easy running 10:51 [2] 2.0 km (5:26 / km)

Warmed up at De Anza, with Wyatt. Thorsten and Tapio were also there...

Long intervals (VO2max) 41:22 [4] 8.4 km (4:55 / km)

... and then, the special guest showed up: Mr. Sydryck! Fresh off his start-up job. I did 6×1000: 3:36 3:33 3:33 3:33 3:38 3:35. Wyatt paced me for #3, and Syd, for #4. Other times, the pack was quite a bit behind... Most of us did 5×.

If I keep improving like this at 4 s/1000 m per week, I'll be doing 15:00 5-kms by the end of the year. Bah.

Note

I found Ms. Kastor's warm-up routine truly amusing. She is onto something. I've been skipping warm-ups before races for a few months now! I think warm-ups before distance events are evil, especially the stretching part. That part can only hurt you.

Orienteering 1:30:44 [4] 10.8 km (8:24 / km) +290m 7:24 / km
ahr:170 max:183

Test-ran a Red course at Telemark. Made two humongous errors, only one of which could have been in any way attributed to the map. My clean-run estimate for this Red would be 76' for me (~93 Red points as of now), which seemed 600 m too long.

The weather was warm and muggy, with some rain.
