Easy running warm up/down 10:54 [2] 2.01 km (5:25 / km)
shoes: New Nikes

Warmed up at De Anza, without the usual crowd of triathletes. I started the warmup early, and the intervals, too.

Short intervals intervals (Repeats) 41:19 [5] 7.24 km (5:42 / km)
shoes: New Nikes

Did 2×(800 + 600 + 400 + 200) (actual metric x00's), with a full lap rest between all. The first set was alone, as Mikkel and Kent were warming up; the second set, with Mikkel and Kent, and Tapio beginning with the 600. Had to take a bathroom break after the first 800.

2:50 119 79 39.4;
2:41 120 77 38.7.

Mikkel was not that far behind... Yeah, had to really work for that 2:41. But it all went well. Felt great. Efficient. Rested.

Medium pace running tempo 4:05 [3] 1.0 km (4:05 / km)
shoes: New Nikes

A finishing Luchik T.

Orienteering race 1:45:44 [3] *** 14.8 km (7:09 / km) +445m 6:13 / km
spiked:22/23c shoes: Integrators

Escaped Pig IX Day 3 with barely a scratch... in stark contrast with the Dallas event. Yes, I did wear shorts in that one, and I did not push it at all in neither event, suffering from hangovers in Dallas and just generally a bit tired in OCIN-land from all the ultrarunning. But I think the real reason was that in Dallas, the course setter for Day 1 was hell-bent on dragging the people through the worst of the vegetation, whereas at East Fork, options were many, and the best ones did not require full body contact with the wild rose.

Note

I ran Blue alone, after the last Trialer finish, as I was needed on the Team Review Panel. Early in the morning, Allison and I checked out the Yellow; it was her first O-experience. She thoroughly enjoyed it, despite the mud. The Yellow, however, used some of the Blue controls. It was fun to see the Trials intrigue unfold in the woods, and the trains that formed... I could not, however, feel a bit cheated by the course setter for revealing a few locations. Still, I decided to run Blue in the afternoon competitively. I do not think that having been at Blue #11–#14 (#13 was not a Yellow control, but we went there anyway) helped me much. Maybe a bit more though than having mapped the area around #13 back in 1997. Sorry.
