Easy running 1:59:56 [2] 21.37 km (5:37 / km) +75m 5:31 / km
ahr:136 max:162 shoes: Road Mizuno

The full Baylands loop. Nice weather, a tad windy. No mud, but plants overgrew parts of the muddy pond loop. There were tiny gooselings and a very pitiful-looking cat.

Easy running warm up/down 23:48 [2] 3.97 km (6:00 / km) +66m 5:32 / km
ahr:137 max:154 shoes: (C)Ross Dress Brooks

It was a dry but extremely windy evening as I made it to Kezar for the I. Mark was there.

Long intervals intervals (VO2max) 24:57 [4] 4.8 km (5:12 / km)
ahr:150 max:179 shoes: (C)Ross Dress Brooks

We did 4×(1000 I + 200 rest), starting every 6:30 and going with the wind. Mark averaged 3:33, and I did 3:34 3:32 3:32 3:33. Some of those laps were truly ridiculous: 47" into the wind, and 39", the other half.

The track was completely empty; people were just preparing to get drunk. My right lung/airway was irritated more than usual, quite possibly from yesterday's fly interaction.

Easy running warm up/down 25:53 [1] 3.97 km (6:31 / km)
ahr:133 max:148 shoes: (C)Ross Dress Brooks

I hobbled home.

Easy running 48:25 [2] 8.82 km (5:29 / km) +162m 5:02 / km
ahr:137 max:154 shoes: (C)Ross Dress Brooks

Market St. roundrtip on a finally dry, almost balmy evening. Inhaled a fly upon the first crossing of Castro. Thinking as it must have been previously feasting on some hobo's discards made me quite gaggy. But, I managed to hold it (incl. the fly) until the end.

(I'd like to enter the contest for the yuckiest AP training log entry, please.)

Note

It rained. I chickened on the planned De Anza I. Hope to do it Friday.

BP = 129/74.

Easy running warm up/down 23:54 [2] 3.97 km (6:01 / km) +66m 5:33 / km
ahr:131 max:166 shoes: New Nikes

In pouring rain, ran to Kezar. Was late because of a late Caltrain.

Short intervals intervals (Repeats) 19:53 [5] 3.2 km (6:13 / km)
ahr:140 max:168 shoes: New Nikes

Mark and Mikkel were already into three out of four planned 300 m at R + 100 m rest + 200 m R + 200 rest. I did one with them, then three by myself. I passed on the Luchik T, keeping in mind Sunday's overdosage, but Mikkel did it, at 3:50.

My times were
57.7 34.7
56.0 38.8
55.6 35.5
56.7 37.2.
Mikkel averaged 55"/36", and Mark, as usual, seemed to be moving much faster, in the 52"/32" range.

There was only one other pathetic sufferer on the track besides us, doing what seemed like 200s.

Easy running warm up/down 23:42 [1] 3.97 km (5:58 / km)
ahr:135 max:147 shoes: New Nikes

Ran back, mostly on Page.

Note

The 11-hr trip from Greg's apartment to work on MTA, NW, and VTA was so smooth, it never happens like that. No rude counter agents, the subway showed up on time, the planes took off as scheduled and travelled through minimum bumps... perfect. I slept and drew Sunday's routes.

Note

I ran with/behind Clem to the start. Had to hurry; barely made it, had been sitting in the car drawing routes. But, I forgot to turn on the HRM, so no time for this one. The rule for Season 2006 is, if it's not in Precision Performance, it wasn't training.

Orienteering race 1:45:30 [3] **** 14.79 km (7:08 / km) +455m 6:11 / km
ahr:165 max:173 spiked:23/28c shoes: Falcons

Day 2 of the NEOC event. Started quickly and confidently, but had three micro-bobbles on the first loop—one cliff off, or one boulder off... stop, turn, punch. On the second loop, made another mistake when Sergiy Gnatiouk passed me. I sped up, lost map contact, then regained it but in a parallel situation.

As I got through Control 18, I got hypoglycemic. Unfortunately, I hadn't planned on carrying a Gu or two, and I needed them. I mostly walked the leg up to #19, but it kept getting worse. On the simple leg to #21, I started seeing white and dark spots. On the next one, 450 m on a paved road/grass, I lost a minute and a half to Greg B. But, I managed to pull myself together and finish the remaining easy legs at a decent pace without a complete loss of consciousness. Wasn't really tired; just, ran out of fuel.

The map and course were excellent. The map was a real pleasure to utilize, and the course was a good Classic/Long, without the extra fuss—use only what you need, but if you need more stuff from the map, it's there, in just the right places. The only disappointment was the laser printing, with invisible contours in the green.

I was very satisfied with my weekend's runs. I was just behind the big dogs, within easy reach, and this reach should happen with more training and, most importantly, if I remain healthy. A tick crawled away from me last night on a dinner table...

Climb is from the Polar, and the length is from OCAD.
