Got up and did the Nisene Marks trail loop, with about 2.5 l of water and some Gus. Ran slowly, with tomorrow's effort in mind. The trail was mostly deserted. It was a touch humid, sunny, and chilly underneath the redwoods.
Note
After the run, I hung out on Seacliff Beach for a while, then went to downtown Santa Cruz and waited for 35 minutes for a beer. Didn't get one. Took the Amtrak bus to Caltrain, then home—at 11 pm.
Running with weights 12:23 [2] 2.35 km (5:16 / km)

Got up on Sunday morning and ran to Transbay Terminal in time for the 6:00 am Greyhound back to Santa Cruz. Made the bus without problems, but got there well after the start of the Santa Cruz Mountains Trail Run.
SF Marathon runners were lining up at their start line just as my Greyhound was crossing the Bay Bridge.
Event: WOC 2006
Note
The plan was for a weekend of training fun in Santa Cruz. I got to town late this evening to find out that my reserved hotel room had been given away. My complaints to the manager prompted an escalation up to threats of arrest. A call to Expedia produced a $100 voucher and a night at a much more expensive place, with most of the town sold out. I should have just looked for the airport shuttle (Amtrak was done for the evening) and gone back to San Jose and crashed at the office, but I took the pricey room, jacuzzi and all. But at the rate, there was no chance of me staying on Saturday night, so I decided to go home to SF on Saturday instead of partying.
Orienteering (Course setting) 1:25:06 [2] ** 9.5 km (8:57 / km) +415m 7:21 / km

Helped Joe Scarborough set an AR course for some SWAT team training on Friday late night/Sunday early morning. It was great to get out of the city and run in the golden grasses of East Bay hills. I placed four controls, the last one as it got dark. Made it out of Mt. Diablo State Park just as the ranger was sweeping North Gate Road.
The climb is from the Polar, the length, guessed by Joe. Will update.
Easy running warm up/down 11:14 [2] 2.01 km (5:35 / km)

Warmed up at De Anza with Kent and Mikkel. It was still pretty warm in the evening, 31 °C.
Long intervals intervals (VO2max) 39:16 [4] 7.24 km (5:25 / km)

With temperatures rapidly falling (to 22 °C at the end of the session), we did I 804s with 202 m rest. I did 6×, and Mikkel and Kent, 5×. Mikkel also did T 1600s a day before at Kezar, so was a touch tired and averaged 2:47. Kent shined at just under 3:20. I did 2:45 2:42 2:43 2:46 2:47 2:46.
It felt like a really hard effort to maintain 82.5 s laps in the beginning, but the last one, alone, felt flyin'—temperature?
Note
Way too effing hot today. Say in a coffee shop all day and brought the AP log to date, 01 May 2006—current.
