Swimming 1:20:00 [3] 3.5 km (22:51 / km)

Finally pulled out a big training effort in the pool. It's the first time I've swum this kind of distance for AGES!!

6 x 500m free
w/- 100m in between each set of other stuff (fly, water run, breast, back).

Now I'm feeling a bit wobbly.

Monday Mar 30, 2009 #

Running 1:05:00 [4] 13.0 km (5:00 / km)

Solid run out of town and back. Feels good to be back running again.

Walking 20:00 [1]

Sunday Mar 29, 2009 #

Running 15:00 [2]

Barefoot soft sand run at Trigg Beach to warm up before my surf. I think I was the only person down there today without a wetsuit.....what a bunch of wooses!

Road Biking 1:10:00 [3] 30.0 km (25.7 kph)

Wanted to spin the legs and get out on the bike seems it's been a while. I miss my bike. I should ride more.

Did a loop down towards Cottosloe and then back up the coast to Trigg Beach. Very gusty out but enjoyable all the same.

Running 25:00 [2]

Soft sand, barefoot beach run

Swimming 15:00 [2] 0.65 km (23:05 / km)

A little wake-me-up morning swim in Kaye's condo single lane lap pool. Very cool, except for the fact that it is poorly engineered and thus causes you to be swimming upstream after each flip turn.

Orienteering 19:33 [5] 3.8 km (5:09 / km)

Nav Dash #3, @ ECU Joondalup.

Screwed up control 1 by getting into the circle and then running around on the spot looking for the control - lost about 20 seconds. I was then a little ticked and COMPLETELY screwed up control 2 by going to the wrong building and then getting turned around and then having to stop and actually use my compass to reorient. Lost about 1.5 minutes....at least. Then took a deep breath and composed myself and finished the next 14 controls flawlessly. Very surprised to still be in 1st place (by 11 seconds).

Running 15:00 [2]

Warm-up, cool down from orienteering race.

Thursday Mar 26, 2009 #

Running 1:39:00 [4] 20.0 km (4:57 / km)

Finally some real training. It's my first long run in I don't know how long and it felt suprisingly good. It was hilly and very windy on the return but I still managed to do a negative split. Maybe having months and months of serious training is actually benefical for the body. Maybe I still have hopes of returning to peak marathon fitness again this year.

Swimming 45:00 [2] 2.0 km (22:30 / km)

1500m free
5 x 100m IM (25 back, 25 fly, 25 breast, 25 free). No RI

Crossfit/Gym/Weights/Core 1:00:00 [2]

Today I learned how to barefoot ski. It hurt....ALOT. I used up every last bit of my strength trying to avoid death. And I'm proud of myself too.

Sunday Mar 22, 2009 #

Running 1:05:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:25 / km)

There is nothing better than a perfect autumn morning in the country. And today is perfect - blue sky, crisp morning, not a breath of wind, warm sunshine heating up the day, birds singing......and a run in the bush.

Saturday Mar 21, 2009 #

Running 35:00 [3] 6.5 km (5:23 / km)

Cruisey run up with the kangaroos on sunset again

Running 10:00 [5]

Finished my run off with sprints on the horse racing track. I think my distance was about 130m

33:90
32:44
30:26
29:52
29:82
26:86

They got faster and faster because I was getting in the groove of fast legs again and because I was concentrating on my form. Tooms would be proud!

Yoga 30:00 [1]

Until I was interrupted by my surprise birthday lunch.

Friday Mar 20, 2009 #

Running 1:15:00 [3] 14.0 km (5:21 / km)

A lovely plod around the perimeter of town on the bush trails. Practicing my slow plodding pace for the Bibbulmun run.

Tennis/Squash 35:00 [1]

A good battle with my sister that went to 14 sets....and for once in my life, I came out on top. I love that my sister has a brand new tennis court attached to her house.

Adventure Racing 3:15:00 [4]

City Chase, Melbourne.
Didn't win....darn it!!
5th place. We made a fatal error at the start that cost us the 30 minutes that separated us from first. After that, we executed an excellent route with no further hitches.
It poured and poured and poured with rain the whole time.

Friday Mar 13, 2009 #

Walking 2:00:00 [1]

Not so much today. I'm starting to get this city memorized.

Thursday Mar 12, 2009 #

Walking 2:30:00 [1]

More walking around Melbourne. Slowly getting to know the city. No backpack today so was able to move more quickly.

Road Biking 45:00 [4] 22.0 km (29.3 kph)

Speedy ride with an uncle and cousin that I didn't know I had. They found me a bike to ride but it was about 3 sizes too big. Had difficulty handling the u-bends on the sweet bike route we did up on the Yarra but definitely a great ride and a great way to end the day.

Wednesday Mar 11, 2009 #

Walking 3:00:00 [1]

Walked all over Melbourne with very heavy backpack. Actually, it was more like a stagger because I was feeling like crap after the red-eye flight from Perth.

Tuesday Mar 10, 2009 #

Swimming 40:00 [2]

500 m swim,
500 m fly set
300 m swim

Orienteering 30:00 [1]

And now I'm off for some fun in Melbourne...

Monday Mar 9, 2009 #

Note

It was one of those days. First I was going to run, then I was going to do yoga, then I was going to do core exercises, then I was going to do intervals, but in the end.....I did NOTHING. Better call it a rest day.

Sunday Mar 8, 2009 #

Road Biking 2:35:00 [3] 65.0 km (25.2 kph)

A windy early morning ride around river and back up coast. Got picked up by a small bunch of guys on their Sunday coffee ride and they invited me to join so I had a faster section there in the middle of my loop where I picked up the pace to stick with them. Pulled off at a cafe in east Freo for my favourite cup of tea (yerbe marte, licorice and peppermint) and friande. Mmmmm....

Then had to fight a strong headwind all the way back home but was enjoyable riding along coast. Lots of beach action to keep me entertained.

Saturday Mar 7, 2009 #

Orienteering 22:00 [5]

Nav Dash #1 - UWA.
Definitely felt sluggish in the heat with jetlagged legs. It was a rare time when I was navigating faster than I could run. Just one small error (10 seconds) to control #10 and a few times I lost seconds trying to find the control in the circle....not used to looking for flat board.

Walking (Commute) 1:00:00 [3]

Friday Mar 6, 2009 #

Running 1:00:00 [3]

A fast run on a VERY hot morning down along the beach path. Trying to run the jetlag out of my legs.
