Running 1:50:00 [3] 19.5 km (5:38 / km)

Was all dressed in my cycling gear but then suddenly remembered that I am supposed to be a runner and I have a rogaine next weekend and a 100 km ultra coming up in early spring. Despite the fact that my calves were screaming from yesterday's 3 hr barefoot running escapade, I changed into my run gear and ran to Applecross to meet Pete for a paddle.

Paddling 1:15:00 [3]

Canning Bridge to Windsurf carpark and back on the surfski. Gale force southerly and un-earthly sized jellyfish to contend with, but super fun. I love paddling.

Running 2:50:00 [3]

Scarbs to Cott and back, barefoot! I pretty much sandpapered off about 2 mm of skin from the bottom of my toes. Calves are screaming, but Nicki happy!

When I got back to Scarbs they had shut the beach for another shark. I was a bit miffed because I was desperate for a swim, but things were a lot worse for the athletes in the Indian Ocean classic who were pulled out of the water 1.6 km into their 3 km ocean swim leg. I got to watch the race re-start after they re-opened the beach which was really cool. Might have to put that one on my radar for the future.....just need to learn how to surfski and paddle-board.

Road Biking 2:25:00 [3]

Commute to uni and back. Nothing like a string of days over 40 to make 34 and humid seem really pleasant.

I just realised I've posted 16 hours of biking this week and almost no running. Except I'm an ultramarathon runner, not a biker. Better get some time on my feet this weekend.

Road Biking (Commute) 2:30:00 [3]

Yep.....today made yesterday seem cool.
And the next few days....

41, 40, 42, 40, 38, 38, 38!!!

Yikes. Not quite sure whether humans are built to exercise in outside temperatures that are significantly hotter than body temperature.

Road Biking (Commute) 2:25:00 [3]

Hot hot hot. Like really hot. 38, I think. Which is going to seem cool after the next few days. I was worried my tires would melt. Is that even possible?

Running 1:20:00 [3]

Thought the day was going to be cooler so decided to head out for a longish run later in the morning. As soon as I started running the sun broke up the clouds and it turned +33 and humid in an instant. Forgot sunscreen. Forgot my sunnies. I ran for a while on the sweltering pavement and then retreated to the beach and ran along the waters edge. Much nicer. Not much of a run, though.

Walking 40:00 [3]

On the beach. Then some wicked body surfing with mum and Jo-Jo.

Hobble-boy-John sat on the sand and watched. He'll be back on his bike in no time, though.

Road Biking 2:00:00 [3]

Fast ride around river with the boys.......until John, Rae, and Gibbo got into a tangle at 30+ km/h and all went down with a big bang. Two broken bikes, one written-off, one smashed helmet, and John to the hospital.

Whoops.

Thankfully John's pelvis is still in one peice.

Orienteering (Star Swamp Metro O) 44:00 [3]

Didn't wear a Garmin so guessing time and have no idea of distance. Sprinting hurts. Orienteering is fun.... although the metro series hardly passes for orienteering. Nice excuse to run fast, though. 1st girl and about 5th overall on long course. Stuffed up one control coz I didn't read the description. Dumb dumb. Route choice was sort-of OK but can definitely see better.

Running 15:00 [3]

Warm up jog.

Paddling (Surfski) 1:40:00 [3]

Today was one of those day where I wonder why I don't live here. I went out for a paddle with Pete from Canning Bridge to Nedlands and then back via Applecross. I switched into Pete's Fenn ultra-tippy race machine for the return trip (not by choice, but because he started paddling away in my boat). I think he figured it would be entertaining watching me trying to balance my way back across the waves and chop. It was the first time I have ever been in a performance kayak and he kindly gave me a 2-minute practice allowance in the shallow. Keeping in mind that I am pathologically terrified of jellyfish and there were bazillions of them floating in the river today, I was not very relaxed. I tipped three times before finally insisting we switch back. Fortunately, I was back on the more stable surfski by the time we passed back through the mothership area of jellies. Yuck!

Overall, I am pretty chuffed to have managed to make two thirds of the way across the river in Pete's tippy boat. I could definitely move here and take up paddling seriously.
