Orienteering (Australian Rogaine Champs) 12:00:00 [3]

First 6 hours were stellar - 33 km in 6 hrs with only one small 2-3 minute error.
From 6-9.30 pm, we made a couple of small mistakes but were still keeping up with our 'plan'.
Then things....well.....went pear-shaped, navigationaly speaking.

Miscellaneous (Surfing) 20:00 [1]

Spent most of the time fighting powerful white-wash instead of actually catching waves so will definitely count that as training. I'm stuffed!

Running 58:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:16 / km)

Was supposed to be a tempo run but my garmin ran out of battery power and I got distracted by the beautiful ocean and the surfers so ended up being a more leisurely plod. I've got to find less interesting places to run than along the coast in the magnificant early morning!

Yoga 1:05:00 [1]

I started back at a yoga class near my new place. Sweet!

Running 27:30 [5] 6.0 km (4:35 / km)

2 x 3 km tempo RI: 3 min

Ooooo.....I have a LONG way to go if it was THAT hard to run only that fast.

Running 25:00 [3]

Cruisey warm-up and cool down jog

Orienteering 1:19:00 [4]

A much better day of orienteering. Might have been the southern hemisphere compass that actually pointed to north, or the fact that I actually kept focus and stuck to my plan to read ahead and to never lose contact with the terrain. The first 5 controls were absolute spikes which made me happy. I spiked the circle on 6 but lost 20 seconds or so running around the massive pile of boulders looking for the control's hiding spot. Had I read the description that said "west side" I wouldn't have felt like such a clutz. 7 and 8 went really well and I ran fast and read the contours simultaneously....rare, for sure. Had a fantastic plan to 9 which fell apart in the 11th hour..... was trying to not be distracted by Juffy but next time I'll just follow him because he got it. I lost another 20 seconds or so when I went to a parallel boulder. 10-12 went swimmingly, especially the long leg to 12 which represented some of my best ever orienteering. Then I though to myself, "gee, this is going well", which is the first sign that something is about to go very wrong. 13 and 14 got the better of me as I had no attack point and so phaffed around inside the circle looking under rocks and down earth banks and behind trees and anywhere else that looked good. I tried to straight-line it to 15 but for some unknown reason (that involved not using the compass) I made a big round-a-bout kind of arch. Lost more time. And then fumbled the last control too...heading up into the trees and rocks too early.
Overall, felt OK. Was able to run fast in the open areas. Just got to work on my finesse!
