Running 2:15:00 [3] 24.0 km (5:38 / km)

slow slow SLOW long run through Dryandra on trails. I sure hope I see some improvement in my running soon.

Running 50:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:16 / km)

An easy morning jog down to the beach to check out the surf. Turned out to be a bad plan because the conditions look great but now I am 3km from my house, on foot, without my board. Hopefully they'll hold until after I teach my one period of French.

Walking (Commute) 1:10:00 [1]

Running 1:05:00 [4] 13.5 km (4:49 / km)

Whoops......was supposed to only be a 45 minute run but I wasn't thinking too clearly at 6.30 am when I headed out around Herdsman Lake, forgetting that it is over 13 km round trip from my place. Now I'm late for work. Nothing like a tight schedule to force a bit of a tempo effort out of you!

Walking 1:00:00 [2]

Serious, SERIOUS power walk to school this morning as I was SO late. I got to class just in time and was all sweaty and my hair was wet from the shower.....I looked shocking. But happy, because I squeezed in a great pre-work run this morning!

Running 1:21:00 [4] 15.0 km (5:24 / km)

long intervals session today.....in the gastly, bleak weather.....with the Herdsman Lake ducks as my only companions.

4 x 1500m

6:24 head wind (4:15 min/km)
6:15 tail wind (4:09 min/km).....yah sub 3:00 marathon pace
6:42 more headwind as the storm hit during this interval (4:27 min/km)
6:18 tail wind (4:12 min/km)

Remaining 9 km as warm-up cool down.
Collided with a sparrow..........Sparrow-1, Nicki-0 (it hurt)

Walking (Commute) 1:10:00 [1] 7.0 km (6.0 kph)

To and from work in the rain.

Missed group training tonight because I'm up to my eyeballs in reports and marking and had to stay late at school. Sigh!

Berk! It's crappy outside anyway.

Adventure Racing 4:30:00 [3]

What a day!! It's hard to believe that I could have so much fun during a race in which so much went very wrong. Where do I start.....?

My new compass that I had just exchanged because the one I bought for the rogaine didn't work, pointed south instead of north. I discovered this just minutes before the start as I was leaving the carpark. Thanks to Juffy for saving me with a spare compass.

The first exercise started well. Hit Argentina (20 pts), then France (50 pts...woohoo), then #8 (no idea what country that is), went too far south of #7 and so skipped it and went for trail to run for Brazil coz I figured they were in the soccer final. Except I was on the wrong trail and ran and ran and ran until I thought I was getting close to Perth again (!) so relocated and realized what I'd done. Returned for Germany control (#50 pts) and grabbed a lucky 30 pts from control #5 for my 200 pts. Definitely could have done that more efficiently.

First mtb-O went well, but it sure helped having Boltboi just ahead to see when he pulled off the bike and headed into the bush for the control. Realized pretty quicky that I am NOT mountain bike fit at the moment.

Arrived at TA 2 on the wrong side of the pipeline and had to scramble under. Exercise 2 didn't go so well. I hit MY first, and when it was Pinjarra I figured the letters didn't match so headed for PH (Port Headland....dang it!). Then C (it was Carnarvon, NOT Cuballing.....dang it again). SB.....it's got to be south Bunbury......nope, Shark Bay. Onto MI.....where is Mininew??? Of course - it's up north. Surely the rest have to be south of Perth. And they were but I now had a really inefficient route.

Back onto the bike and I tear off down the wrong track. It wasn't until I hit a fence by a farm that I checked my compass and map and worked out where I was. Was able to take a connecting trail back to pipeline but encountered lake-sized puddle which was nearly up to my top horizontal bar deep and so took a swim. Excellent.

Had to throw my bike over pipeline again. Headed into Chidlow and onto arial photo mtb-O course. Sudden switch to micro-scale caused some initial problems....kind of got it figured out by the time I hit control 10....after missing 3 controls and taking the 9 minute penalty.

Onto the next mistake - missed the trail running parallel to highway and ended up riding down the hill to the powerline so I could ride back UP the hill to the CP11. Nearly got run over by some 4WD'ers on the narrow section. I finally arrived at the orienteering event but came screaming down the hill, slammed on my brakes and did an endo, feet clipped in, and face planted in the dirt in front of the crowd registering for the event. Put a hole in my thumb that then bleed all over my map. Nearly impaled myself on the end of my handle bar.

I was thinking the orienteering would be my saving grace. But I couldn't find control 2. Relocated back to control 1 three times (THREE TIMES!!!). After that it all went swimmingly and I settled into a pleasant walk around the course that resulted in no more serious errors.
Got back to find out that I received a 15 minute penalty for leaivng my first map in my car. Oh well. I think I still got 2nd girl......or maybe 3rd.

Some days are just like that.

Thanks Tooms for organizing such a stellar event which I thoroughly enjoyed in spite my dumb-ness. I have an idea to do a similar event back in Calgary.

Road Biking 1:30:00 [3]

Biked back to the start but to keep with the spirit of the day, I got lost.....again! Didn't pay attention when the Heritage Trail split and branched and ended up back on the bloody highway. I must have looked pitiful because I ended up getting picked up just as I was coming into Mundaring.
