Running 1:05:00 [2] 11.5 km (5:39 / km)

A late night, too much Sangria, shitty weather, and an overabundance of Saturday errands conspired against me and my long run. I am just a victim of my own life.

I only squeezed in a jog up to the top of Nose Hill and back. At least it counts as a bit of hill training.

Long run rescheduled for it's original time slot of Sunday morning.

Running 52:00 [1] 8.5 km (6:07 / km)

It's only 1.8 km to the grocery store from my house but I found a 8.5 km route to get there all through the neighborhood. I think I've finally found an advantage to living in the 'burbs.... you can run for miles around the maze of streets but not actually really go anywhere. Is that an advantage?? Felt like it today.

Super slow, easy-peasy recovery run in the rain.

Running 41:17 [5] 6.0 mi (6:53 / mi)

6 x 1 mile repeats on the track.

6:48
6:50
6:55
6:53
7:01
6:50

Not toooo bad. Definitely still have lots of room for improvement.
I just checked over my speeds for this workout last year and I was able to hold 6:48s. I definitely have work to do.
HR up around 190, but recovered to 122 during RI.
Being patient with my slowly returning fitness.

Running 53:00 [3] 10.0 km (5:18 / km)

Warm-up/cool-down around the mile repeats

Deep water running 20:00 [1]

With a few hundred metres of freestyle thrown in.

Running 1:17:00 [4] 15.8 km (4:52 / km)

Fartlek run - 11 x 100 m strides in the first 100m of each kilometer.

Legs still feel a bit heavy but I got 'er done.
Sprints were speedu (around 3:25 min/km) but recoveries were slower than they should be - only just a squeak under 5 min/km.

Road Biking 1:30:00 [2]

Out and about on a gorgeous sunny day in Calgary. Even with a brand spanking new sporty, shiny car in my driveway, I can't bring myself to drive when it is THIS nice out.

Road Biking 1:15:00 [2] 31.0 km (24.8 kph)

In between rain storms, Claire and I headed out of town north on our road bikes for a bit of a late afternoon spin. The coolest part of the ride was when we made a spontaneous decision to sneak passed the "road closed" signs and barriers and onto the brand new section of the ring road that isn't open yet. What a rush. We had to slyly pretend we were taking a drink break at the lights while the police car went by, and then we were off. YEEHAW!!!!

It'd be a great place to do time trial sprints. And the view back to Calgary is awesome. Don't worry, we practised what we were going to say if we got caught... [Fluttering eyelids and sweet voice] "Hi Mr Construction Worker. We were just testing out your road. You made a lovely road. [Perplexed] Oh....it's not open yet? We were kind of wondering where all the cars were".

Definitely the highlight of my day. Thanks Claire.

Running 12:00 [2] 2.2 km (5:27 / km)

Yep....that's how far I got into my 15 km hard training run before I quit. Apparently, running right after an unbelievably tough massage is not ideal. I think I'm still a bit fatigued from my 130km of volume last week as well. I've decided that if I'm too tired to focus on the quality then I'd be better to rest. Quality, quality, quality....it's my new mantra. No more slow running for me.

I'll try again tomorrow morning.

Road Biking 55:00 [1] 19.0 km (20.7 kph)

Exceptionally cruisy ride from the zoo, where I dropped my car, out to Stoney Trail to meet Ann for the raft put-in. Don't think I raised my heart rate. And just in case I did, I stopped halfway at the Extreme Bean to refuel on a soy matcha green tea latte and to read the paper.

Note

I'm working really hard on making this an extreme rest day. After my exceptionally lazy ride, I then took Ann and her girls rafting down the bow. 4 hours of rudder-ing from the back on a lovely warm day was about the extent of my output.

Running 2:40:00 [1] 26.0 km (6:09 / km)

Was happy to join Ann for her long slow run, with walk breaks. It's nice to run with someone as we just talked the entire way around the 26 km. A gorgeous morning to be down on the river. Ran from Extreme Bean, looped around Crowchild, then west to Stoney Trail and back.

Don't want to get in the habit of running that slow but it was very welcome at the end of a super high mileage week - 130km
