For over 10 years, I've wanted to do the Baldy Traverse, but have been too chicken. So today I took my hunky boyfriend with me to be a calming voice in my ear and we scrambled up North Baldy, then over to South Baldy and then all the way down to the col on Baldy Pass. Finished with a speedy 6 km downhill run back to the car on sweet trails.
Besides the well-known downclimb section on the ascent, the real crux is on the descent off Nrth Baldy to gain the ridge. Definitely some interesting route finding, bum sliding, and crab-walking on little loose slabs with a whole lot of vertical nothing directly below. I LOVED it!
Nice to switch it up from trail running and get back in the scrambling saddle.
That was DEFINITELY the last mountain hoorah before 3 months in Australia. I'm going to miss my backyard, even though the beach is a worthy substitute.
