Paddling 1:55:00 [3] 15.0 km (7:40 / km)

UWA to just past Blackwall Reach and back.

Running (4-hr Urban Rogaine) 3:57:00 [3] 33.0 km (7:11 / km)

Linda agreed to join me for another suffer-fest, this time of the urban, pavement variety. I figured we could run between 30 and 35 km but we didn't have our pins and strings with us to be able to easily estimate distance while route planning, so I just kind of eyeballed it.

Headed north into Bayswater first. Didn't realise that it was so hilly up there. We did a big sweeping loop to collect almost everything (except the four controls in the far west). Crossed the river on Tonkin Hwy and then headed into the SE corner of the map. We swang by Ascot Race Track to pick up 103 as an out-and-back though because we didn't want to leave it until the very end. Discovered the clue at 61 had been ripped up and repaved over in the last 24 hours. We ran through Belmont Forum, although I just noticed that we probably should have picked up 94 as well. Linda was ready to throw in the towel and that stage and threatened to either: (1) Do some Christmas shopping at the mall, or (2) look for a 4 pm movie at the cinemas, or (3) join the family fair in the park and start eating mini hot donuts. I convinced her to keep running. So, we made our way back via the industrial area and eventually back to the river and over to the finish line.

In the end, exactly 33 km and 2790 points (I think)......although I added up the points we visited when I got home and counted 2920 so either we had 140 points worth of wrong answers or there was a miscount. Either way, it didn't change the result. Good enough for 2nd overall and 1st ladies team. What a fun afternoon although I don't recommend running on the pavement for four hours.

Road Biking 1:35:00 [3] 42.0 km (26.5 kph)

Running 3:13:00 [3] 25.0 km (7:43 / km) +700m 6:46 / km

Tonight I joined Andre and Will for their most excellent hills running adventure. SO. MUCH. FUN.

I just followed along and tried to understand the many rules that apply:
1. Have no plan.
2. Take no map or compass.
3. Using the position of the moon is allowed for determining general direction of north.
4. In case of getting lost, looking at the GPS track is not allowed (cheating).
5. No running on a track that has been run on before.
6. If in doubt, go further east.
7. Have a minimum of 3 hrs of battery life on your headlamp.
8. Bushwhacking is mandatory at some point in the run.
9. If you are running on a track and you see another track veering off that is narrower, always take the narrower track.
10. Always run away from the direction of barking dogs in the night.

I got home at 11.30 pm last night and discovered a note from Pete to say that he was going paddling at 4.30 am. Me, being the ever optimist, decided to set my alarm and see how I felt but I just couldn't drag myself out of bed despite this morning being the MOST perfect paddling morning so far. Here's to many more glassy mornings this summer......and occasionally sleeping in.

Paddling 1:10:00 [3] 8.5 km (8:14 / km)

Windy and choppy today. I had a wave crash over the top of the boat which filled the cockpit with water and I had to return to the beach to empty out.

Still a great way to start the day.

Running 2:30:00 [3] 24.0 km (6:15 / km) +275m 5:55 / km

Over to Bold Park for some hill running. Although, all the trails are pretty much paved in there so it wasn't so much fun. I HATE pavement. I am sick of pavement. And I don't like pea gravel trails either, so I am pretty much screwed here in Perth.

9 weeks until New Zealand! I miss the mountains sooooo much.

Running 1:05:00 [3] 10.0 km (6:30 / km) +500m 5:12 / km

15 x repeats of Mosman Park hill, which was far more entertaining than I expected. The Great Santos Ride was going on through there and I got to watch the carnage unfold on that hill for over an hour. There was cramping, vomiting, tipping over in cleats due to slowness, and collapsing all over the place. By the time the back of the pack came by, pretty much every cyclist was walking up that hill which made running repeats a bit tricky as I had to dodge a lot of hunched over people.

Bike Commute 50:00 [3] 15.0 km (18.0 kph)

To Mosman Park, then Cottosloe and home, on the granny-bike.
