It was super hot already at 8 am so figured I wouldn't be as fast as last time. Decided to focus on pacing instead. My splits were almost perfect:
Orienteering (City Beach MetroO) 51:20  8.65 km (5:56 / km) +165m 5:25 / km
Finally nailed it!!
Had to get 17 out of 29 controls (drop 12)
Took off south and then west down the hill and cleaned up the entire west side of the map (in the streets). Just left one silly out-and-back control in the far NW corner. Then worked my way back up-up-up the hill in the searing heat of the afternoon (34 degrees, no shade) to the Bold Park Pool bushland area. Just needed an additional 5 controls in the east part of the map, including the one at the water tower, which left me with a wicked downhill to the finish.
Good enough for the ladies long course win.
