Road/trail race (Ultra North 55km) 4:18:43 [5] 53.78 km (4:49 / km) +676m 4:32 / km
slept:7.25 shoes: Saucony Peregrine grey

Up early and set off for Newcastle at 6.30. weather wasnt too bad driving over, got lulled into a false sense of security. It was pissing down when we arrived.

Bit strange doing a social distance start, setting off in groups of 3. But it was well organised. Hadn't appreciated how much tarmac there would be. Think 18 of the first 20km was tarmac or heavily compacted bike path, feet were tender between my toes by then. Got overtaken by a couple of runners who started behind me, one looked good, the other like he'd set off way too fast. Didn't really worry about them until I arrived at CP2 to find out I was first and they must have gone off course. Amazing how that can make you feel a bit better, was instantly running with a little more purpose. 10km section in the woods was nice, quite like whinlatter, finished all too quickly and was back on a mix of disused railway line and the odd bit of grass and river bank before 16km of tarmac to finish.

Ate well, roughly 90g/hour until last hour when I neglected eating a bit after feeling full of liquid. Legs were pretty solid all day, didn't feel fast but felt strong and was moving quicker in last 10km than the first.

Ran in t-shirt sleeves and gloves and didn't get cold, deep heat worked a treat on my legs.

Early run out along the river with the dog. Legs felt good this morning, woke up quickly. Hill sprints were ok, didn't go crazy.

Treadmill 40:41 [3] 8.1 km (5:01 / km)
slept:7.75

Easy spin on the treadmill at lunch, legs felt fresh. Groin was a little tight in the morning when I woke up so didn't do any quicker stuff.

Had a strength and power test with physio this evening, looking to get testing done on a few local runners every month or so with an S&C coach, this was first eve. Not sure what they were called but did strength test, pulling on bar while stood on a mat (measured a reading), jumping off a mat to record power and dropping off a box to monitor stability while being recorded. There was a 2km time trial but I swerved that, will try and do it once legs have freshened up after the weekend. Will get sent a breakdown of weaknesses and things to do to help improve them, should be useful. Although we know glute stability is one area to keep working on.

Road/trail (Moderate) 1:02:08 [3] 11.54 km (5:23 / km) +128m 5:06 / km
slept:7.75 shoes: Saucony Peregrine grey

Run from home into Carlisle along the river, back on a bit more tarmac just to see how my trail shoes felt at a quicker turnover on the road. Looked at the course for Sat and looks like a lot of tarmac and paths. Will most likely wear road shoes. Legs felt good, apart from the nettle stings, and breathing was comfortable.

Trail (Easy + strideouts) 55:46 [2] 9.01 km (6:11 / km) +76m 5:56 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Saucony Peregrine ST

Easy loop with the dog along the river, so foggy it was a waste of time taking a headtorch so ran in the dark for 15 mins. Legs were good this morning and got into the run early on. Right groin has tightened up since getting back from work and was quite uncomfortable.

Easy run along the river in the rain. Legs moving well, little bit heavy but still felt strong. Strideouts were much better than before the weekend.

Fell (90 mins SE) 1:43:23 [3] 14.54 km (7:07 / km) +699m 5:44 / km
slept:7.5 shoes: Inov8 xtalon 255

Loop on the Northern Fells with the dog. Felt great again today, relaxed on the climb up High Pike, mixed walking and running and was up in 25 mins from the van. Ran well all the way round, eased off a bit in the second half taking a couple of photos. Beautiful day to be out, seems like a lot of people thought the same, never seen the northern lakes as busy.
