Road (Fartlek) 1:36:00 [4] 21.56 km (4:27 / km) +100m 4:21 / km
slept:7.0 shoes: Nike Zoom Fly 3

Out along the road through Rockcliffe to run back and forward on the straight road. Felt like a big session but enjoyable. Legs were good even in a blustery cross wind which swirled round a bit. Pace was good and I think I cruised along under the moderate pace and had to hold back a bit. That's been the biggest change in last few weeks. Ran the last rep 15"/km faster to see how it felt for future sessions.

Trail (Easy) 50:00 [1] 8.3 km (6:01 / km) +70m 5:47 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Inov8 xtalon 255

Early to bed and then woken at 4am by Alf, couldn't get back to sleep. Proper tired all day. Had to pop home for laptop and needed a 10 min power nap on the sofa.

Easy run down the river on my own, Agnes got out the house and then refused to come. Just sat the door. Ha, I hope you've not jinxed her...

Fairly muddy, legs felt good but didn't bother with strideouts, approx 400m total of not wet ground.

Treadmill (Hill Tempo) 1:15:00 [4] 13.5 km (5:33 / km) +705m 4:24 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Saucony Kinvara

Struggled to get to sleep. Need to do something about sleep. New rule: no coffee after 10am except one on a weekend. Or I move totally to decaf (it's never as good).

20' easy | 7% incline 15' @4:26/km & 10' @4:35/km | 30' easy

Set off at same pace as last week but had to dial it back to 4:35/km after 15 mins, just too much lactic, felt like I'd be finishing with a end of 10km effort.

Trail (Hill sprints) 1:00:00 [3] 9.8 km (6:07 / km) +81m 5:53 / km
slept:7.5

Easy run down the river and then 6 x hill sprints. Hill sprints were pretty good, far better than last week's slog. The dog isn't down for hill sprints. Stands in the middle of the hill and waits til I'm done.

Road (Moderate) 1:00:00 [3] 13.5 km (4:27 / km) +90m 4:18 / km
slept:7.25 shoes: Nike Pegasus 36

Testing conditions, it was a double jacket run. It sleeted most of the day and it turned to icey rain by the evening. Despite the weather it was actually a good run. Wind and rain slowed me a bit but felt very relaxed in sheltered spots and with wind behind. Legs good but hips feel tight and restricted.

Trail (Easy + strideouts) 50:00 [1] 7.9 km (6:20 / km) +24m 6:14 / km
slept:7.75

Very easy run along the river with the dog. Double encounter with the same fox. Stopped to watch him in the river scrub and jogged along the river bank while he trotted below. Nearly ran into me as he tried to get up the river bank. Saw him on the way back half a mile further on too.

Cold wind and got well wrapped up. Legs feeling heavy and in desperate need of a massage, calves a little tight from speed work I think, glutes have definitely tightened up. Strideouts were ok but didn't fully push on them. S&C and self massage tonight.

Road (Moderate) 1:45:00 [3] 23.86 km (4:24 / km) +210m 4:13 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Nike Pegasus 36

A few friends had decided to run the Cumbrian Run route for the crack, setting off at half hour intervals. Decided to join in and run at moderate effort.

-3 made it a chilli one and never really felt comfortably warm. Hands certainly didn't warm up fully, despite the big gloves. Took a couple of Kms to get going and legs felt tired and tight for the first 10k when they seemed to find some rhythm. Second half was relaxed and went quickly, bit of a disjointed ending, looped around the castle and ended up running through a building site.

Didn't feel the need for any calories. Wasn't sure if that was right or not. Getting on top of the post workout nutrition seems to be helping energy levels a lot. Took gel I didn't use at finish and had a shake and a banana.
