Staying high up in Châtillons and enjoying a great breakfast and talking to the host who's from Spain (but part Finnish descendent). It had rained overnight and there was a slight drizzle as yet.
We packed up anyway, and sure enough after 10:30 it had stopped and the fog lifted a bit so we could see the golden-mustard-yellow rapeseed fields and the lake.
At 10:38 we left steeple downhill and then on to Estavayer-le-Lac continuing north sometimes flat, sometimes up and down. The 10 km passed, then 20 km and after 25 km on the northern part of the lake in Cudrefin, we headed down to the port of the town to see whether any coffeeshop had open on the day of labour where everything is firmly closed. But we were lucky, had a (bad)coffee and a piece of cream pie then headed on, now going through the nature reserve (for bikes allowed) through the woods on a beautiful smallish trail until we hit the canal connecting lake of Murten with the lake of Neuchâtel.
We went up on the road for a bit until we turned off left to a lesser road in the fields and belonging to the women's prison when all of a sudden the skies opened up. The black cloud had completely surprised us. Trying to find shelter to put on my rain gear, I turned way to narrow and couldn't hold the the angle and fell. Oh brother, hit my left knee, elbow and hip while the rain pelted down. Evaluated my situation but felt no damage, but mostly bruising. Urs had to help me out from under the bike and off my backpack and get me up to standing.
Finally, we put on our raingear even though we were already wet.
Kept going along the broadside of the lake and getting closer to the Neuchâtel side. The rain had stopped and the rain gear even dried out somewhat and we stopped on the canal connecting the lake of Neuchâtel to the lake of Biel.
After we went on, I forgot to restart my watch, but soon after it had reset it by mistake and I could start from that point on again. Now we traversed familiar territory. Another short stop on a bench just before town to get off the warmer jacket and overpants, then we zoomed through town and on to the last kilometers back home.
Again, 53 km and a little over 3 h total for today.
The total for the whole trip around the lake was 108 km and 6:02.
