Orienteering race (Seidman Black Friday) 1:58:24 [3]

I had a great time with this course today! Overall I found 23/27 CPs. I think I did well in some areas, but I have a lot to polish up. After watching Livelox, I made a lot of mistakes and got sloppy near the end.

My gameplan was to work the course counter clockwise and this was my first mistake! I should’ve researched the map in more detail and I would’ve seen that I could’ve went after a couple more CPs that were near the ones I already found but I was too focused on sticking to the plan. I got some good advice at the end and it was recommended to write out the plan of CPs in order to make sure I didn’t lose track and I think if I would’ve done this, I would’ve been more open to finding some CPs in bunches and saving time. Example, after CP 74, I should’ve went after 94 but instead I went for 80. I actually missed 94 because I ran out of time and had to get back to the finish. So there again leads to the point my plan could’ve been better.

Most of the course went smooth and I didn’t have too much trouble finding the CPs. I could’ve been more efficient, but I found them. Up until CP 73, I passed it by a decent amount, used the houses on my right as catching features and doubled back and found it. Lost about 5 minutes. At this point I could feel myself getting mentally fatigued and was telling myself to “stay focused” “you’re almost there”.

I decided to go for 82 and then I was going to take a straight shots up to 91. I found 82 and then some people by 65, who were just walking around the park, yelled at me saying they found one and then when I turned around, I fell apart and lost myself on the map and be disoriented and almost ended up by OH before I got back on track. I lost about 8 mins. And by this time I had 15 mins left to get back to finish, I completely forgot about CP 91.

Once I crossed the bridge I thought I had enough time for 2-3 more CPs and I got 92 and 81 before sprinting back to the finish and decided to pass EX and FE. 92 tripped me up a bit because I thought I was at the sandy clearing but it was actually a bit further down the trail.

I think this was my best run yet, but I have a ton to work on. Looking forward to the next one.
