Monday Apr 30

Softball 1:15:00 [2]
BEESA Spring League, Game #2.

I missed our first game the week before, so this was my first game with this team. I batted last in the order, but I managed a personal best 6-for-6 batting with four doubles and two singles. I played three innings of catcher and three of pitcher.

Oh, and we won 42-8!

Two years ago, we were getting beat that bad. Now we're on the other end and it feels pretty good.

Sunday Apr 29

Street Scramble race 3:00:00 [3]** 12.62 mi (14:16 / mi)
spiked:22/23c shoes: Pearl Izumi SyncroSeek
First Street Scramble of the year. It was pretty fun. My writeup can be found here: http://www.streetscramble.com/node/85

Saturday Apr 28

Orienteering race 25:31 [4]*** 3.22 km (7:55 / km)
spiked:11/14c shoes: Vasque Lightspeed
FINALLY!! An orienteering meet!

Cascade OC, Ultimate Orienteer #1
North SeaTac Park

I was out-of-shape, and rusty. I nailed #1 and #2, but I lost about a minute on #3, where I ran too far down the trail. And then I ran too far down the open area. #4 was fine. I cut in too early at #5, thinking that the white on the map was the open area I was looking for (very open white). I realized this and lost about 30 seconds.

#6 was fine, and #7 I took a risk, thinking that I'd be able to hop a fence. However, the fence didn't have the top bar on it and it was really sharp, and I didn't want to be medevac'ed, so I lost another 30 seconds to run around.

#8 and #9 sucked, because I was winded, and it was all uphill. I had to walk in places. I navigated fine.

#10, #11, #12, #13, and #14... I spiked all of those and ran all of it.

3 mistakes, a total of 2 minutes. There were a lot of hesitations out there.... where I knew that the flag would be on the other side of the tree/rock/whatever, but I would think otherwise, and lose a few seconds. I think that's the rust showing...

I'm not sure how 25 and change fared in the standings. Eric finished just under 20, but his recent training has been low. Targo was 23 and change, and I'm guessing that many other people did better than me today.

Scott, Mike, and Gina all ran the same course I did, with Scott finishing 10 minutes behind me, Gina around 16, and Mike was way off. Of the 14 legs, Scott actually beat me on 8 of them, but he had a 9-minute mistake and a 3-minute mistake. Beth also came along and did a beginner course... and she got really really lost out there.

I'm meet directing the next Cascade meet, which unfortunately for me, is the Score-O, which means that I can't compete. That means that my next competitive orienteering event will be over a month away (again).

At least I can get my competitive navigation fix before then. The first Street Scramble is tomorrow.

Saturday Apr 21

Tennis 2:00:00 [2]
Doubles tennis with Gina and her parents. We got smoked. I need new strings. Once I have new strings, I could be lethal again. (Except for my serve, which was horrible).

Friday Apr 20

Softball 1:30:00 [2]
Now that I work down south, I've joined a co-ed softball team down here. I played my first game with last night, and we tied, 14-14. Surprisingly, we were down 7 runs in the bottom of the last inning, and we scored 7 runs to tie (4 of them with 2 outs). It was amazing.

Not so amazing was my batting performace. I was the only person on the entire roster not to get on case. I popped up to the pitcher and lined out to short. I pitched pretty well for two innings. The first two batters I faced scored, but that was all. The other innings I played at short, but I only saw one ball.

Surprisingly, there are 3 Jayhawks on this team, as well as another guy from Kansas City who went to UMR.

Saturday Apr 14

Other 1:45:00 [2]
I pulled weeds for almost two hours at Golden Gardens park with REACH/EarthCorps. We were removing invasive English ivy, and pulling out the roots, which is what I was doing, was a good workout. Good enough to log in AP.

Wednesday Apr 11

Note
The Street Scramble t-shirts are finally ordered and on their way. Now it's on to pitching the Cascade and OK shirt designs.
Ultimate 1:15:00 [4]
Played some ultimate. I didn't feel all that great... I felt like I was dogging it. I made one spectacular catch, but other than that, I was mediocre.

Lots of injuries today (sprained ankles and knees). I rolled my ankle twice in the same little hole, which was annoying, but I played through it and it ended up being ok.

Tuesday Apr 10

Running 7:12 [4]1.08 mi (6:40 / mi)
shoes: Pearl Izumi SyncroSeek
Ran four laps around the track with some folks from Gina's Ultimate team, during their track workout. I ran my laps on lane 6, which is why the distance is irregular. I took the first lap really easy, since it was a warm up and I was chatting with the others.

I wore my brand new shoes. I really like 'em!
Running intervals 1:43 [4]0.6 km (2:52 / km)
shoes: Pearl Izumi SyncroSeek
200m x 3, with Gina's Ultimate team.

The first two were easy, the third one sucked. I never run sprints, and running so soon after dinner was not good. Not good.
Running hills 1:42 [4]0.4 km (4:15 / km)
shoes: Pearl Izumi SyncroSeek
I ran all of the stairs on the bleachers at the track, which wasn't a very good idea. The aluminum was all wet, which made for a really slow decent and turns.
Running warm up/down 4:00 [2]0.5 mi (7:59 / mi)
shoes: Pearl Izumi SyncroSeek
Two cool down laps while throwing the disc around.

Monday Apr 9

Note
Guess what! Another o-meet got postponed!

This time it was the Sammamish Club!

(However, it seems that this one for a good cause. The next day, a permanent course designed by a high school kid has its grand opening and there's a quasi-meet there.)

Saturday Apr 7

Other 2:00:00 [2]
I helped Lowell move all of his possessions from his old apartment in Mukilteo to his brand new one just a few miles away. The new apartment complex would make for a great little o' map, so maybe I'll work on that.
Note
Yeah, so I tried to figure out OCAD tonight in some basic mapping of Lowell's new apartment complex... didn't work out so well.

This little project is meaningless, but I will be embarking on some mapping this summer... so I need to figure out how to use it.

Ultimate 1:40:00 [4]
No more basketball. No more volleyball. Not on a soccer team any more. Orienteering keeps getting cancelled. Street Scrambles still a month away. Softball season got postponed...

But there's ultimate frisbee, and it was absolutely spectacular last night. We played 4v5 for a majority of the night, which was a blast. Lots of running (I was on the 4 team), lots of great skill (very very very few drops).

Great fun. I might have to make the drive up to Everett every week once I switch jobs.
