Wednesday Mar 28 | ||
| Ultimate 1:30:00 [4] | ||
| Ultimate at Forest Park. It was really fun. | ||
| Basketball 30:00 [4] | ||
| Basketball tournament, round 1. We lost by ten or so. I took a brutal charge from the other team's big dude, and I have bruises now. That was about the only thing I did well, except hit both of my free throws. No more basketball until next fall. | ||
Tuesday Mar 27 | ||
| Volleyball 1:00:00 [2] | ||
| Volleyball tournament. We won the first one, lost the second, and totally collapsed in the third game, and thus were eliminated. The next season starts next week, and with injuries (Carlos and Elan), and people taking a season off, and my new job down south, I don't know if we'll be fielding a team in the spring season. I might have to wait until summer when everyone is healhty and Jesus comes back. | ||
Wednesday Mar 21 | ||
| Ultimate 30:00 [4] | ||
| We only played 30 minutes of Ultimate because the athletic director of Cascade High School came out and told us to stop using the field because they needed it to be in good shape for their JV soccer games.
Right now, we don't have a place to play for next week yet...
Monday Mar 19 | ||
| Ultimate 45:00 [2] | ||
| Gina and I tossed the disc around for 45 minutes. | ||
Saturday Mar 17 | ||

| AAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!
Cascade cancelled ANOTHER meet, this time the Night-O on April 7th. This time, it's because nobody volunteered to be meet director or course set. Because the first two meets of the 5-race Ultimate Orienteer Series have been cancelled, Cascade has decided to just not have an Ultimate-O this year. I don't get it. I thought we had a "healthy" orienteering community here, but this is the third meet we've had to cancel in the past six months, two of which were cancelled because of no volunteers. After the cancellation last fall, that's what prompted me to be course setter in December. And I'm course-setting again this September. Do I need to be doing more? How do we avoid cancelling meets? This is unacceptable.

Thursday Mar 15 | ||
| Basketball 1:00:00 [4] | ||
| Played an hour of basketball (maybe more?) at the company gym during lunch. One of the guys from my group organized it. It was fun. | ||
Wednesday Mar 14 | ||
| Ultimate 30:00 [4] | ||
| Now that daylight savings is over, we're starting pick-up ultimate again. I only played for 30 minutes because Gina's dad and bro were cooking steaks and I was invited over. I played pretty well for not playing in 6 months. | ||
| C • field crumpets? 3 | ||
Tuesday Mar 13 | ||
| Volleyball 2:00:00 [3] | ||
| I'm gonna bump this up to intensity 3 because we only had 3 of us playing. Carlos got injured 5 minutes into the first game, so it was just Matt, Gina, and I.
This was by far the most fun and best volleyball we've played this season. It was amazing. We hustled, we scrapped, we pass/set/spiked, it was great. There's one team who we've never, ever, beaten, even with a full squad of 6. We beat them with 3. It was amazing. We also won another game. Unfortunately, due to the league's rules, we had to forfeit all six games. Oh well. It was still fun.
| Running warm up/down 5:00 [3] | ||
| Went running with Gina around the softball fields before volleyball. | ||
Monday Mar 12 | ||
| Basketball 30:00 [4] | ||
| The undefeated team is still undefeated. But, we did outscore them in the second half by 11 points. We lost by nine. I didn't have the best shooting night (3-8, 7 points), but I took two charges and got some rebounds. Tim C. and Blake were big, and Eric hit two 3's late that were a lot of fun. | ||
Wednesday Mar 7 | ||
| Other 1:30:00 [2] | ||
| Nick and Angela wanted to go ice skating, so they organized a little trip to the Lynnwood Ice Center for Wednesday night's "Cheap Skate". Nick, Angela, Gina, Lowell, Mike, Scott, and Beth all came along, too.
I'd never ice skated before. I was scared of falling, but I didn't! (However, I still don't know how to stop. I just kinda slow down or run into the wall.)
Tuesday Mar 6 | ||
| Volleyball 1:45:00 [2] | ||
| BENVA Week #7
5 wins and 1 loss. We played really well all night. We won a game against a shorthanded awesome team, and we should have tied the next one, but the game was inadvertantly ended too soon, and we were down by a point before one of my serves.
Monday Mar 5 | ||
| Basketball 30:00 [4] | ||
| BEEBA, Week #8.
We lost. It wasn't too pretty. That's all.
Saturday Mar 3 | ||

| Cell Phone O: First Half
Gina had the punchcard, I had the map. We did pretty well. I directed her around the course about as perfectly as I could have. I made sure to take nice and easy route choices. Hamlin Park has lots of trails and the woods are pretty open, so sometimes the indistinct trails are hard to pick up.
| Orienteering 30:00 [4]3 km (10:00 / km) | ||
| spiked:4/8c shoes: Vasque Lightspeed | ||
| Cell Phone O: Second Half
Gina had the map, I ran around. We lost some time on the first one, as Gina tried to direct me to the parking lot, when I really needed the paved trail past the parking lot. I screwed up #2, as I ran past the correct boulder, and I didn't see the flag. A couple of small bobbles on the next couple, but also some super fast ones. Our biggest mistake was on #7, when Gina directed me right to it, but she read the description for #8, so nothing matched up. I kept leaving the control, and she kept directing me back to it, and then she realized that we were at the right one all along!
Thursday Mar 1 | ||
| Note | ||
| So, the 3/17 orienteering meet was cancelled because of permission issues. This weekend's meet is a novelty: Cell Phone O'. And the next scheduled meet on 4/7 is Night O'. This means the next "regular" orienteering isn't until 4/28. That's over two months without normal orienteering. That sucks. | ||
