| Note | ||
| It's ramped up to 7 days a week now. Luckily (?), there's a rule which mandates your 4th weekend to be off, so my next day off is August 4th, which is 184 work hours away!

| A fun evening course at Wilburton Hill in Bellevue in 90 degree heat, which wasn't as bad as I remembered it being in Kansas (it's the humidity, duh).
This park has a new permanent course, so 5 of the 9 controls were the small plaques, hidden on the backsides of posts and fences and on cinderblocks at features in the woods. I lost some time trying to find the plaques because I'm used to seeing flags and not reading control descriptions. Nailed 1, bobbled for a step or two on the way to 2 because a park bench walkway resembled a trail junction. 3 was ok. I should have trusted my instinct instead of double-check the map, so I lost a few seconds here. 4 was fairly long, and it was back in the woods a bit. I didn't lose much time here, but when I popped out of the woods, I gave away the location to Eric. 5 was short and easy, and I was still ahead of Eric at this point, but we took differing routes to 6. I thought I took a very nice route choice, until I found out that the indistinct trail really wasn't there anymore, so I had to go down to the next trail. Eric said that he knew the trail wasn't exactly there, so he took another route entirely. He punched ahead of me at 6. I got really hungry on the way to 7, so I slowed a bit. I also lost a few seconds looking for the plaque. I finally caught up to Mike looking for 8 (I think Mike had one of his better runs today). Terry was also back there looking for 8, as it wasn't exactly in the right spot or something. I found it after about 90 seconds perhaps, and then I headed out to 9. 9 was on a post near the finish, but I wanted to make sure that ran to the correct post, since there are several all over the park. I probably ran too slow here. Then the short sprint up the hill. Apparently, Eric had trouble at 8, as I passed him there without realizing it. He still beat me by about a minute, though. I should have run course #2 also, but by the time I realized that it didn't overlap at all with course #3, I had already downed a can of pop and two hot dogs.

| Volleyball 1:40:00 [3] | ||
| Volleyball. We had all five people there, so we had one person sit for an entire game. I sat out the 3rd game (the first against the #1 team), after I whacked my head pretty good on the court at the end of the 2nd game.
Anyway, as a team, we went 4-1-1, which included a win against the top team , and a come-from-behind win against one or the worst teams. We tend to play up or down to our competition. I figured out something with my jump serve. In the first game, I served 10 service points in a row. It was amazing. My accuracy went down later, as I served several out in one game. Also, when Elan gives me short sets, I'm all over them, I think because my timing on short sets is good (like my service toss), but I still don't know how to approach well on the high sets.

| Softball 2:30:00 [2] | ||
| Two playoff games.
We won the semifinal, 13-7. I pitched the whole game and did pretty well. At the plate, I was 3-4 with 3 runs scored. It was especially fun because our opponent killed us 20-7 the previous week. We brought our A-game. And then we proceded to go limp at the plate in the championship game, managing only 2 hits in the first six innings (or something embarrassing like that). I pitched the first five innings, and we "held" them to 13 runs. We made a few errors, but this team scored 35 runs in the semifinal game, so they have hot bats. They were one out from a 13-0 shutout. I was on first base with two outs (I reached on a fielder's choice, so I was a horrible 0-3). Anyway, Thomas got a hit, then Joe, and I was the first to score. Our two-out rally ended up scoring 7 runs, and at least we had out opponents yelling at each other a bit, so that was fun. We finished the season 8-3-1. Not bad for a team that went a combined 9-30-1 over our first four seasons. The summer season starts next week.
| Note | ||
| Ugh... 56-hour weeks are rough when you're playing 3 softball games and 6 volleyball games a week. And then occasional weekday orienteering events. By the time I get home, it'a already past my I-have-to-be-at-work-at-5am bedtime. It's exhausting. It's hard to sleep at 8:30pm. I feel like a kindergartener.
I have barely any time to hang out with my roommates or my north-end friends, or Gina. The good news is that I'm timing my three-consecutive working well (we're not allowed to work 4 consecutive weekends). If I work the next 3, I'll have the first weekend of August off, which means that I can go to Seafair with Gina again (our first dating anniversary!). And then after 3 more weekends of work, I have Labor Day weekend off! Which means that I can probably add a few days of vacation and head up to Barebones. However, I have no idea when I'm going to get this summer mapping project done. It's starting to look hopeless.
