Softball 1:15:00 [1]
Lost 15-10.
We were ahead after the 1st and 2nd, tied after the 3rd, and only down one after the 4th. And then I gave up 9 runs in the 5th. Some of it was errors, some of it was just plain good hitting. Shoulda swapped pitchers, but I thought I had a good thing going (only 6 runs in 4 innings).
We scored 4 runs in the 6th to make it somewhat interesting.
Batting: 3-for-4, 3 singles, 1 RBI, 1 run scored. However, after the bottom of the lineup scored 4 runs in the 6th, I grounded out with two on base, 0 outs. That ruined our mojo. For the season, I'm 15-for-18 with 14 singles and a double.
Fielding: made an excellent "web gem" snag of a hard grounder. And then in the 9-run inning, I muffed a bouncy grounder hit just to my right. I ended up kicking the ball. I think it's my first error of the season.
Orienteering race 20:40 [4] 3.3 km (6:16 / km)

Really easy and fast course, not many route options. #11 looked like it wasn't there, so I assumed that it was misplaced or stolen. Turns out, it was actually there, but there was nothing to hang the flag on, so it was tied to some loose sticks which then collapsed under some brush, making the flag almost invisible unless you were 2 feet from it.
I had a sloppy exit leaving #15, taking the wrong trail. Lost 17 seconds, according to Garmin. I did a good job of planning ahead, and taking good routes.
Bruce cooked up some BBQ chicken nuggets, which were awesome!
Also, two high school XC runners showed up for their first event. One of them seemed really into it, and he was only 3 minutes behind me. He's going to Western in the fall, but I gave a plug for the Urban 4-Day we're having in August.
Volleyball 2:30:00 [3]
Volleyball:
A bit of a weird night, schedule-wise. We were supposed to have the opening round (two games) bye, and then play Ken's team 2nd round and Flo's team 3rd round. But then Flo's team announced in the afternoon that they had to forfeit, so I managed to schedule scrimmages with Ken's team in the 1st round (Flo's forfeited opponent) and Ben's team in the 3rd round (they had a scheduled bye). So we played 4 games against Ken's team, all losses, only two of which counted, and then 2 games against Ben's team, which we won, but they didn't count (we won them by Flo's forfeit).
We only had four players, with a weird grouping, so we played pretty bad against Ken's team. After three weeks of awesome hitting, my hitting went away, and my passing was poor. I just wasn't playing well, and neither was anyone else. Two of the losses were embarrassing. We beat Ben's team because we played OK, and they are the worst team in the league.
Anyway, after all of that, a few of us still wanted to play, so the four of us played a 2-on-2 "King of the Beach" style round robin. And then I played awesome! Hard hits! Accurate hits! Perfect passing (which is the most important part of 2-on-2)! Nice serves! I couldn't believe that after an evening where I pretty much sucked at everything, that it all came together. I ended up winning all three games: 13-8 win paired with Gina, 13-9 win paired with Aaron, and 13-6 win paired with Eric. I'm so glad I stuck it out and played that extra half hour. Definitely worth it for the confidence boost.
