Race report for the Kellevie 12 Hour:

We started off the day quite well with everything going according to plan. I did the first lap and finished in the top 10-15 people and then passed the batton to Brittany who rode quite well. All was going according to plan until Brit's 3rd lap.

Halfway around the track she somehow managed to annihilate her rear derailleur and derailleur hanger to the point of no return. She also managed to somehow bend the living shite out of her front disc. We patched things up mid lap as best as possible so she could limp back to transition for assistance. Instead of leaving things to her and dad to fix I stopped riding to try and get her going again. After and hour and a half of fixing I managed to have 6 out of her 9 gears working in a broadly feasible way and the front disc rubbing as little as possible. It was enough to get her out riding again and she did another lap, but any further progress was limited as her bike was stuffed.

Given how technical the Kellevie course is Brit opted not to try night riding for the first time here. Which meant I had 5 hours of darkness to enjoy the pleasures of trying to navigate a very twisty track by torch light. I rode pretty much 4 hours straight before stopping for a 30 minute nap. Interestingly enough on my first night lap the girl in front of me crashed her brains out and hurt her ankle pretty bad so I spent 15 minutes waiting for the ambulance with her.

Knowing we were so far behind the leaders and far enough in front of third place I had an hour off to nap/rest so that I could cross the line after the 12 hour mark.

Overall it was a great day, though things didn't really go our way. I'm glad we did it, but next time I would definitely do a 3 person or 4 person 12 hour race because 6 hours is a farkin long time.

Timmy, happy birthday, sorry you were stuck in Canberra, shot gun you for the next enduro. Possibly Ryanie too if he doesn't pike.

Brittany's laps: 4 day ~38km
My laps 4 day, 6 night 92.8km

(Day laps for me were limited as I was trying to fix Brit's bike)

I'm going to be totally shagged for at least the next week.
