Week 4

Well rested and leisurely morning. No taxi duties so good breakfast and coffee. Headed out for session around 10am and easy 20mins up to Arthurs Seat. Legs felt good to begin with, some slight stiffness at top of hamstrings. Suspect it is down to putting them through a greater ROM than normal in the strideouts. Drizzly day but strong winds and a headwind when doing the reps.

Rep 1: massively overcooked it at the start and really tied up. Breathing out my arse and a bit of a struggle. Bit of a slip and gradient maybe too steep to run effectively. One slip underfoot. Only covered 630m in 5mins. 115m climbed. Long recovery ~7mins.

Rep 2: started in a different area and a bit better underfoot. Felt more controlled, working hard and very much still finishing in o2 debt. Wind stronger gusts on this rep. Covered 680m. 104m climbed. Recovery 5mins.

Rep 3: consistent with the second rep, controlled but pushing. Covered 680m, 94m climbed and then keeled over in a heap.

Slightly longer way home and easy 30 to finish. Might look for a better option for repeating this session next week.

Week 4

At a bit of a loss with that one. Legs felt good throughout the day and better than yesterday in the 40min easy. Was moving better and apart from a gurgling stomach it felt comfortable. Then got to the Strideouts and felt sluggish and lacking power compared to yesterday. The 5th rep felt the best and was probably closer to yesterday’s speed and quality, the rest just felt like I was trundling.

Felt well rested when I got up. Ate enough through the day but no mid afternoon snack. TGIF.

Lung capacity test tonight to inflate the new Swiss ball - no bloody pump !!

Week 4

Slept much better last night and an early night. Legs felt good but opted to start work early to finish early. Starving most of the day today and eating a lot.

Pissing down with rain for the run. Left at about half 4 and for the first 3km my legs felt terrible and heavy. Did an easy 20min out, 20min back and the last 5km felt much better. Path I had planned for the strideouts was pitch black so opted for the side of the road outside the house. Flat and well lit with enough space to run for 20s and jog for 90s-2min between. First two gradually building effort and then last 4 at a harder pace. Felt strong and gait felt powerful and controlled throughout. Will do 8 reps tomorrow.

Moderate 1:00:01 [3] 13.92 km (4:19 / km) +59m 4:13 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Zoom Fly 3

Week 4

Shocking night sleep with dog up at 2 and struggled to get back to sleep for a while so woke up tired. Opted for a chilled morning before work and ran at 5pm after work. Swiss ball and mat yet to arrive so no S+C session yet. Hoping it comes tomorrow.

First ‘Moderate’ run and enjoyed the session. Uphill to begin with before getting to the Meadows for some flat loops. Swirling wind made pacing feel a little inconsistent but just tried to keep breathing and perceived exertion consistent. Legs felt good throughout and time passed quicker than I thought. Some proper fucking idiots at the Meadows though so don’t think laps there will be a regular fixture. Not good for my zen.

Energy levels pre run felt much better and banana and bar at 3.30 ish which seemed to work well.

Week 4, 25 - 8 - 25

Overslept this morning and running late after walking the dogs at the back of 6 then got out at 7 but no coffee or food. Felt well rested and stunning morning before the next bout of rain that’s due.

Football pitches almost too close for convenience so ended up heading around Craigmiller Castle. Not sure that was the best on reflection as quite similar to a xc course. Will be good to build strength but not as easy going as the road or flat trails for an easy run. Good fun and did a couple of loops before heading across the road. Diagonals felt good and felt as though I was moving strongly. Pitches pretty chewed up and slippy so glad I wore a grippy shoe. Accelerated to a good pace (possibly too quick for terrain) and took the touch line recoveries pretty easy before the next rep. Went back to the Castle loops for the last 25mins.

Week 4

Woke up at half 5 this morning and about an hour before alarm. Would be normal time if it wasn’t for the clocks changing. Felt rested enough and went and walked the dogs before the run. Coffee and a slice of banana bread before leaving. No issues on the run so good pre breakfast snack.

Legs felt heavy this morning and took about 4km to get moving better. Loosened off and got turning over smoother. No issues or niggles today. Starving though.

Easy road run 31:45 [1] 6.14 km (5:10 / km) +54m 4:57 / km
slept:6.5 shoes: Turbo 2 - purple

Week 3

Terrible night sleep and up from 4.30 which was actually 5.30 but still too early. Lazy day with a long dog walk to stretch the legs. Topped up sleep with a midday nap after the F1 and then went for an easy run.

Easy 30mins to turn the legs and feeling good after longer run yesterday. No niggles or pain to report. Early night tonight.
