Road Run 2:25:00 [2] 31.62 km (4:35 / km) +183m 4:27 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: EVO Speedgoat

Good night sleep and a long lie. Up at 7.30 with the dogs and then coffee, bar and smoothie for breakfast. Cold morning but clear and sunny. Headed out around 11am and went to see where the cycle path pops out.

Ended up out by the coast and on the John Muir Way. Paths surprisingly clear and good running. Legs felt good and were turning nicely. Apart from the first few km and around Arthurs Seat then didn’t need to worry about ice at all. Need to keep this in mind for sessions! Slight tailwind on the way out which explains some of why pace was creeping up. Only realised after the turn and felt a little headwind on the way back. No niggles through the run and felt comfortable throughout. No fuelling. One of the rare occasions I ran with music and quite good when passing easy miles and drowning out traffic noise.

Easy + Speed Variations 1:04:53 [1] 13.3 km (4:53 / km) +102m 4:42 / km

Well rested and a good night sleep. Up early to take the wife to work and drove home via the Meadows. Conditions were a complete write off for getting any quality in. My mate attempted at lunch and had to abort so the right call. Busy day at work finishing a report and ran at 5pm.

Temperature apparently -3 and it certainly felt like it!! Treacherous conditions even on the bike path so a bit tentative. Legs felt okay - not super fresh but rested enough had I been able to get the session done today. Strideouts felt good and was moving well before then settling down to an easy pace again. Fine enough run but not what I was hoping. Forecasted to be lows on -5 tonight. Clear enough but may need a plan B for tomorrow...

Easy road run 1:01:38 [1] 12.35 km (4:59 / km) +117m 4:46 / km
slept:6.5 shoes: Zoom Fly 3

Awful night sleep and tired and lethargic throughout the day. Legs were feeling the s&c more today than usual. Maybe due to upping the ante with the weighted exercises or just poor recovery. Will be having an early night tonight for sure.

Run felt okay. Easy going and good to get some fresh air. Heavy legs and needed to walk of a stitch after 4km. Otherwise no aches or pains. Getting a bit tired of this ice.

Hill Reps 1:08:00 [3] 12.0 km (5:40 / km) +322m 5:00 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: EVO Speedgoat

Slept well but woke up tired and badly wanted to snooze. Resisted temptation and got dressed super slowly before heading out. No snow fall overnight but -1 even before the windchill. Very cold on the top of the hill.

Took a while to get going this morning and body felt pretty flat. Legs were okay, not really springy but turning okay. Got warmed up and headed for the hill and stretched out. First third of the hill on roads was good and felt like I was running at a good intensity. The second third was a right off to be honest and too much ice to run hard. Last third was okay to try and pick up the pace again. Made it to the top on each occasion but certainly not hitting the proper intensity. After the first rep I thought twice about continuing the session but pressed on and decided to try and find a route up with the least ice and aimed for the gorse. Second and third rep went okay again and breathing hard at the end of the rep. Easy cool down on the roads and started to feel a bit more awake.

Moderate 1:00:01 [2] 13.8 km (4:21 / km) +94m 4:12 / km
slept:8.0 shoes: Turbo 2 - white

Good night sleep and a chilled morning with coffee and breakfast. Desk day with a lot on at work but got out with the dogs at lunch for some fresh air. Legs felt good today and roads clear of ice. Absolutely freezing though - indoors and out!

Didn’t really ease into the run - was too cold and wanted to get warmed up. Nice to run normally again...to begin with anyway. Headed for the canal but that turned out to be a big mistake. Big patches of ice and really interrupted things. Pretty frustrating. Got off the canal as quick as possible and onto the roads to get back into a rhythm. So many junctions and crossings on the way back.

Legs turning fine and a good enough run but just didn’t get much opportunity to settle into a steady pace.

Easy road run 1:05:22 [1] 12.66 km (5:10 / km) +128m 4:55 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: NB Hierro

Slept really well last night and up to walk the dogs before first day back at work. Then lunchtime saw Scots ‘Ordered to Stay Home’ as the article said. Aye we’ll see. Was starving most of the day and tucking away a lot of calories.

Easy run at around 1630. Biting cold again but rained most of the day and pavements beginning to thaw out finally. Still a little touch and go in places but should be in the clear tomorrow. Run was pretty slow - legs felt heavy and pretty smashed. I think the result of running so tense and tentatively on the ice yesterday. Eased off after about 45mins. No issues and moving better by the end.

Specific Endurance 2:54:32 [2] 28.01 km (6:14 / km) +1182m 5:09 / km
slept:9.0 shoes: EVO Speedgoat

Good night sleep and a lazy morning hoping the rain/sleet/snow would ease a bit. Good breakfast of bagels, coffee and banana and left at 11ish to head to the Pentlands.

Conditions were tough going. Runnable stuff was sheet ice and hills were crisp snow but less runnable. First 40mins were really overcast and heavy snow higher up so opted for the flatter route to get a bit more running in. Legs felt like they were moving well but never fully relaxed with the underfoot conditions. Weather cleared a good bit so trudged up one of the climbs and then pretty good running along the tops. Sketchy descent down Turnhouse but after that it was good running back in. Jacket was on and off all day. Sweating quite a bit and then core temp would drop so quickly in the wind.

Spring gel at 75mins. Sipped Maurten 160 mix throughout. 400ml total.

Enjoyable run. Probably lacking in specificity to some extent given the conditions though.
