slept:7.5 shoes: Endorphin Speed

Shorter night sleep than I would have liked after collecting wife from the night shift and then dogs up early but felt good this morning and raring to go. Coffee and a light breakfast before heading out. Stunning day here although a cool air but by the end of the run it was getting warm.

Eased into the run today but legs were feeling good from the start so didn’t take long. Nice spring in my step and ticking over nicely. Settled into a good rhythm without needing to think about it too much or push much. Headed out round the coast and quite a calm day so felt quite evenly paced. Turned at 45mins and just shy of 11km. The way back felt good. Only bit that the pace fell off was up the climb to the train crossing but then settled back into a good pace.

Pleased with that after Tuesday’s mess.

Well rested but snoozed this morning and tired getting up. Walked the dogs and had a coffee before back to the grind. Good gap in the day to get a lunch run in though and with the good weather it was great to get out.

Legs felt good and energy levels felt normal compared to the start of the week which felt like a bit of a drag. Good to have a spring in my step again. Ran easy but headed for the trails and some rolling terrain. Sprints on a steeper, grass path today but felt strong. Probably worked the hamstrings more effectively than the tarmac and felt good. Easy jog back home and a good lunch break.

Up early to take the Mrs to work at 6am this morning and back for a lazy morning with a coffee and a book. Felt good and recharged this morning. A bit more of a normal day at work today and after lunch the sun came out and clear blue skies. Superb evening for a run. Cold chill in the air but really nice in the sun.

Easy 20 up to Arthurs Seat was good and legs feeling normal again and no issues.

Rep 1 felt a bit stiff to get going but once I did I was moving really well. Got a bit carried away and think I might have overcooked it a bit but felt good and ran it hard. Dying a death at the top and took a breather before jogging back down.

Rep 2 felt more controlled. Maybe a little slower over the first km but more sustained and ran well till the end of the rep before running back down.

Rep 3 the legs tied up a bit. Went well to begin with but as the gradient got steeper the fatigue was setting in a bit. Picked it up again just in time for some prick to just barge straight into me. Perhaps it was the other way round but if you shout ‘excuse me’ 3 times and they don’t move then fuck them. A very British tut and sigh from him but ran on and finished the rep.

Caught my breath in the sun for a few minutes before running down and home again. Last 5mins or so my legs were like jelly but a good session.

Slept like a baby last night and felt recharged for today. Coffee and s&c this morning before work. Session went well and then was sure to have a big breakfast and plenty of calories throughout the day. Another long day and by the time I was finished up it was horizontal rain/sleet and blowing a gale. Forecast tomorrow morning says big sun so opted to run easy and do the session tomorrow morning in the better weather.

Was absolutely brutal out there. 3 layers on and had to dig out the hats and gloves. Frozen solid by the end. Legs were feeling good and moving along fine with no issues. Easy out and back before doing the strideouts on the pitches again. Was moving well and running through a full range of motion and at a good pace.

Road Run 1:01:09 [2] 13.34 km (4:35 / km) +97m 4:25 / km
slept:8.5 shoes: Endorphin Speed

No idea what to class that run as. Certainly not moderate. Probably just shit.

Slept well last night and felt okay this morning however after work I felt completely wiped out. Ended up lying down for 35mins to try and perk up. Headed out the door at about half 6 and a nice evening. Settled into the run and tried to get up to pace but was feeling very unusual. Legs felt really uncoordinated and heavy and after 4km I needed to stop as I was feeling really light headed. Pulled the plug on trying to work at moderate pace and then just ran easier. Didn’t feel particularly great for the rest of the run and also the very mediocre sandwich I had at lunch was repeating on me a bit.

After finishing I’m surprised the pace was around 4:30’s as it felt slower and certainly harder work. No issues with legs, aches or niggles. Just energy levels the issue tonight.

This wind is starting to get on my tits. Blown to a standstill at points and a real grind of a run. Slept well and straight up and out the door this morning. Legs were certainly feeling a bigger weekend and pretty battered. All normal though and no niggles.

Took it nice and easy and just tried to keep in a good rhythm. Strideouts weren’t the best - first couple were just stretching the legs and then later ones felt a bit better but not up to usual speed.

slept:8.5 shoes: EVO Speedgoat

Good night sleep even with the clocks going forward. Up before alarm and had coffee/breakfast then walked the dogs. Clear day here but gusty, cold winds again. Made it quite tricky to dress for and on the run I was roasting in the sun but cold in the wind.

Legs felt good today and body in a much better state than yesterday. First 5k was a bit of a shake out and a little stiff from yesterday. First hour went well and was moving well on the first couple of climbs up through Blackford and the Braids. Maurten gels at 25 and 45mins and a salt cap on the hour.

Second hour felt the best today I think. Dropped down to the Pentlands and along the trails before the next big climb. Into the wind again and tough going but ran all but the 200m steep section and rpe felt controlled. Dropped down to Castlelaw car park and turned at 1:35 before heading back the same climb. Maurten gels at 65, 90, 110mins and then another salt cap on the hour mark.

Last hour was good and was pleased to not have any nausea today. Flatter run back to the Braids before an undulating finish. Last smaller climbs felt good and legs didn’t really fade today. Was sipping water throughout today and got through 400ml today. Got finished a little ahead of time so a lap of the park and an out and back to finish off. Last gel at 135mins. Even managed to finish the run with a bit of an appetite so pretty pleased with that.
