Good night sleep after a long drive north. Felt pretty tired waking up but a lot to get done today. Walked the dogs and then had to take the rental car back. Bluebird day and really nice running.

Despite the pretty horrendous week my legs felt great today and turnover felt really smooth. Aerobically I didn’t feel very settled and some fast km then some slower ones. A bit inconsistent. Was just bursting to run so got a bit carried away to begin with before dialling back a bit. A wee bit phlegmy to begin with but otherwise a good run. Would have liked to do more but away to pick up last minute stuff before flying tomorrow and then need to pack before the rugby.

Shocking night sleep in the hotel and really couldn’t switch off. Gave up trying to sleep and went down to the gym at about 0630. Really good facilities and good a good, if slightly modified version of P&C done. Post gym sauna before long meetings until 4pm.

Straight in the car and back up the road. Long drive and minging conditions. Got back late and shattered. At least I’m off now. Need to sort my life out. Fucking mental week.

Thursday was full on. I’m not going to do this run a disservice of calling it an SE. The first 30mins were specific and around Arthur’s Seat with two good race pace efforts up the climbs but otherwise it was a commute to collect the hire car.

Legs felt good and was moving well. Got into quite a good flow. Was working a bit harder on the road than an easy run to add in a bit of effort.

Mad rush back for a meeting before driving to Manchester.

Slept well but woke up with a splitting headache. Another brutal day at work and it’s really taking its toll. Starting earlier, finishing later, end to end. Mentally feel absolutely drained and diet wise has been really poor. I am now having to travel to Manchester tomorrow for meetings and will only be back on Friday evening. Absolute shambles.

Ran at 8ish tonight after getting finished. Physically feel good but just not primed for a quality run and mentally exhausted. Opted to run easy. More so to unwind and keep the legs turning. Run was fine. Strides felt good again. Just frustrated with a job taking over. Very glad to have a good amount of time off before the race as if I was racing this weekend I don’t think my head would be in the zone.

Good night sleep and woke up feeling good. Walked the dogs and no let up at work. Nonstop day from 8-6 with not much scope to eat or get some fresh air. Last odd cough throughout the day but just the last of it and feeling back to normal.

Ran after work. Manage to blag a free Nao+ so took it for a test drive. Mandatory kit says your torch (likely to not need for the race) needs to have a rear red light. The power is bloody brilliant and you could say I’ve seen the light with a properly powered headtorch. So much better than what I had been using.

Run went really well. That route normally takes me an hour without strides so not sure how it was quicker. Just felt really good all the way through and legs turning well. Strides felt strong again but maybe not quite as sharp as yesterday. Completely different shoe though. Knackered now so early night before run tomorrow am and and another onslaught at work.

Really good night sleep and first one since Thursday where I wasn’t up during the night with coughing fits. Definitely noticed a difference this morning and felt much better. The odd cough but otherwise fine. Energy levels good throughout the day although busy with work and no time for lunch.

Ran after work and legs felt great. I guess to be expected with no running in 3 days but no staleness either and just turning well. Suspect a bit of dodgy gps as I definitely didn’t clock a 3:50km. Breathing felt fine throughout. Did clear a lot of mucus though. Finished with 4 strides and from the off they felt sharp and strong. Good pop to the legs. Pleased to shake that off!
