Orienteering race 1:20:00 [3] *** 9.4 km (8:31 / km)
spiked:13/19c shoes: X-Talon 212

OCIN Rentschler Forest Red. First real O-race for me for many moons...and felt like it after ha. Becca did nice job on yellow, kids did great on white. Elise was the control code checker and si puncher, Gavin navigated. My red had 1 major mistake...somehow mistook #13 for #3, punched it, then immediately was confused when saw wrong control code, then realized what I did and continued on to #3 after the extra curricular adventure. Here's the rest of the rundown:
- started weird out the gate going north to pavement instead of faster west trail. Slow
- not sure if bashing through green or trails was better. I chose bashing and seemed to work ok.
- Mistook #13 for #3, extra curricular punch, but thankfully realized it when saw wrong control code
- The ease of trail route lured me in but I was torn between going straight through woods or trail...trails were pretty slow and I had to keep checking map so I think it was mistake to take the trails..good route choice leg that I probably failed.
- Another route choice challenge...and probably another failure on my part...was so frustrated with the trails coming to 4 I tried just taking the greenish white streamed between hills from 4 to 11 areas up to trail but that was pretty slow going too. Fast once I got to trails though.
- trails then past playground then bash to trail then spike
- trail, AP, spike, easy
- definitely think my choice to go north to big trail then take trails to 8 was good route but I kept hesitating looking at map too much...I think my rustiness was definitely coming out on what should have been a very confident, minimal map referencing leg, but spike
- Another great route choice leg! Opted for gravel road till the small lake then cut north to vicinity of #4 then bashed through white to green east to #9, a little bobbling approaching the circle
- direct, spike
- west to trail then spike
- bobbled but got it
- seeing how I already mistakenly punched earlier this was too easy lol
- bashed to it
- more bashing spike
- more bashing spike
- found animal trail which turned into mapped trail, crossed river, a bit slow and hesitant but spike
- was a bit confused but basically ran into it
- direct spike
F- squishy ground
