Didn't sleep at all the prior night...was literally working on the map and courses, equipment, etc all night long due to losing a day that I thought I would have been off work. But mission accomplished. Wasn't pretty but got it all done.
My main complaint was the chincy 3500 80m RXs that ended up not working at all. They just seem to not be sensitive enough to hear the signal at a proper distance. My own RX worked great, so definitely wasn't the TXs. Going to have to have different RX eqpt if I send people out on Fox-O again.
The 2m eqpt seemed to work great once I found RXs that were in working condition. Some were broken or didn't work but a few worked out just fine, and the few that tried it out seemed to catch on fast. So this one might be a repeat.
Was glad to see my last minute mapping efforts got people to all the checkpoints on the Sprint courses.
In hindsight Steve's idea to put the finish at the lake next time we do a summer Kensington definitely seems to be the way to go!
Next time I do Fox-O I think I will only have a couple TXs out there for the newbies and wil just lend my own RX to use and the next person waits till that one comes back....until such time as I have more reliable loaner RXs.
Next time I do 2m I will have the useable RXs ready to go with batteries and earbuds already loaded. And hopefully better TXs.
Sprints worked out ok except the map which was imperfectly updated by me. Didn't think people would go through the rough yellow when they saw it but they did, so I should have marked that with green stripes to discourage.
All in all it was ok given the circumstances, but definitely the most behind-the-curve, last-minute, thrown together event I've ever organized. But was very happy to see a good showing for an evening summer sprint on such a hot day.
Oh yeah- the mosquitoes and heat were utterly miserable... and just a couple weeks ago it was perfect with no bugs or unbearable heat whatsoever.
Kept the course open late for our distant traveler crossing the country. Glad we could work him in. Finished picking up controls via headlamp illumination at 9:45 pm just before the gates closed. Thanks to Stephen and Thomas for the control pickup help. Interior light in the SUV busted and wouldn't turn off so duct taped it.
Retired at home completely exhausted, slept for 6 hrs, took kids to 1st day of school, then got called to fly an all nighter, finally got home the next morning... and fell dead asleep for 12+ hours! Still feel like I'm recovering from last week and its Sunday night!!
