First goat ever! I skipped 1 (good) and 6 although I think 5 or 7 might have been better to skip. I wanted to race ibex, but decided kid was a better option because I’m dead from racing track this week. There was an unmapped trail which really threw me off on the way to 2 so I hesitated a ton because it was my first control. 3 and 4 were pretty good, but I did have trouble getting through the steep green area near 4. I completely messed up on my attack for 5 and so I lost about 5 minutes there. Definitely should have slowed way down and been more precise with my compass. While trail running to 7, I lost focus for a bit and absolutely could not figure out where I was on the trail. I kind of guessed where I was and tried to find a reentrant from there, but I was further north than I thought. Ended up running within 40 meters of 7 and searched about 100 meters south of it for a while. I knew I was in the wrong spot, but I didn’t know how to relocate so I looked for the control anyway. I ended up at a 4 way intersection and was able to find the control quite easily from there. I caught my mom on the way to 8 and ate some food on the way to 9. I’ve been having trouble focusing in longer races, so I thought eating something might be helpful. It was definitely awkward to eat while running and definitely made me less focused for a bit but I think it was good overall. My route to 9 was kinda dumb but I thought the vegetation would be way worse. The rest of the course was super chill and I ran 6:00 per mile on the 740m go control!!
