Friday Nov 30

Trail run 47:10 [2]
shoes: Asics Torana
Short Rivelin loop with Matt. Feeling a lot better but still no energy, hence very slow. Good to get out and loosen up but think I will probably need to take the weekend easy.

Thursday Nov 29

Climbing 45:00 [2]
Quick climb with Chris and Matt, didn't plan on going but they talked (bullied) me into it. Got on a bit better and my hands aren't as sore as last week. Not going to give up the O just yet though.

Wednesday Nov 28

Note
(sick)
Not a lot different to yesterday, spent it wandering around Leeds in the rain though (as part of a project, not for fun).

Tuesday Nov 27

Note
(sick)
Nothing doing; day of work and coughing. :-(

Monday Nov 26

Note
(sick)
Boo, sore throat has developed into an annoying little cough. Looks like a few days off running for me. All the more time for study and housework...

Sunday Nov 25

Trail run 45:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Falcons
Edale up onto Kinder for EDS training in the Mushroom Garden. Slow but steady jog/walk up most of the hill. Feel fine at this slow pace.
Orienteering 15:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Falcons
Short course around the Mushroom Garden. Very confusing and a lot of fun - would love it if more orienteering was like this. Spent quite a bit of time talking about features and making sure I knew what was what.
Trail run 50:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Falcons
Run down from the Mushroom Garden via Jacob's Ladder. Still grand as long as the pace was slow, otherwise got tired quickly. Whole lot nicer day than yesterday but still a bit cold and windy. Good, fun weekend, just disappointed not to be able to take more advantage of the excellent sessions.

Saturday Nov 24

Orienteering 1:51:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Falcons
EDS training on Blacka and Burbage. Very cold and very wet. Didn't suffer as much as some but was still more than a little chilly when I finished. Throat still sore so did a very slow session shadowing TomE around. Great course and some goos running, just couldn't take advantage. Fingers and hands sore from climbing last night but not painful.

Friday Nov 23

Climbing 59:00 [1]
Went to the climbing Works to try climbing for the first time. Was fun and had a good time. Spent two hours there but a lot of that was standing around recovering. Hands now raw and fingers and arms tired. Will have to see how much I'm suffering in another 24 hours... Feeling a lot better today but still tired.

Thursday Nov 22

Trail run 38:20 [2]
shoes: Asics Torana
Think that today is my 50th in a row training (it's been many years since I've done that), but it could hardly have felt much worse. Feel as if I'm getting a cold and was utterly dead as soon as I got to the bottom of Rivelin. Cut the run short and came back the quickest route possible (but very slowly). Now I want to sleep. Hope that it's just this infamous '2 day cold' that's doing the rounds...

Wednesday Nov 21

Terrain run 1:20:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Falcons
Wharncliffe with Camel. Started off trying to run in the forest but gave up after 15 minutes of bracken and brambles and headed for the open and the nicer bits of forest on the far side. Quite slow but some tough bits of high legs and a few hills. Fun.

Tuesday Nov 20

Road run 54:00 [3]
slept:8.0 weight:70kg shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Cold wet run in the dark, was fun though, although my knee wasn't so keen on the tarmac running downhill. Hunters Bar - Ecclesall Road - Hangingwater - top of Fulwood and Crosspool. Nice enough route with two long hills.
Strength exercises 7:00 [3]

Monday Nov 19

Circuits 40:00 [4]
slept:8.0 weight:70kg shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
New routine, 8 sets of 5 exercises, still 45-15 but much harder with similar exercises backing onto each other. Tired starting so was struggling through most of it, especially the dips.
Warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Sunday Nov 18

Orienteering race 51:00 [4]7.2 km (7:05 / km) +250m 6:02 / km
shoes: VJ Falcons
Colour coded event near Chesterfield, cold (+2) and wet so didn't hang around. Steep, brambly and slippery and I was feeling very tired so took it very easy. Knee was quite sore at the start bit better once properly warmed up, not the greatest map but it did at least get me out for a run on a miserable day!
C • Lovely area 5
Warm up/down warm up/down 5:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Falcons
Warm up, had to get a bit of movement going as it was so cold, not so keen on the warm down - just jumped straight in the car and got out of the wet kit.

Saturday Nov 17

Road bike 2:02:00 [3]52.5 km (2:19 / km)
A57 out to Ladybower and then up to the back of Howden Reservoir. Beautiful day and Autumn colours but a chill wind which seemed to get in the way a lot and made my fingers and toes cold. Was planning a long run but my knee is a bit bruised so a sitting down seemed a better option than running.

Friday Nov 16

Trail run 1:16:35 [2]
shoes: Asics Torana
Rivelin Dam circuit in the dark with Mat. Legs desperately tired so pace was very slow, also because a small light a stony twisty paths in the dark are challenging. Took a right nasty tumble at one stage and clocked my knee of a rock. A bit sore now. Created a hole in my beautiful pair of classic tracksters...(!)

Checked BO ranking lists today (why do I feel as if I've done something wrong in saying that?). Don't know what everyone else is at as I shouldn't be ranked in that position!

Thursday Nov 15

Intervals 24:00 [4]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
3 - 2.5 - 2 - 1.5 - 1 - 1.5 - 2 - 2.5 - 3 minutes with 30 seconds between each. Very cold evening so started quite slow as I wasn't properly warm. Enjoyable session and the longer ones were nice.
Warm up/down 42:00 [2]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Jog down to Endcliffe, warm up/down and back via Ranmoor with Danger.
Strength exercises 5:00 [3]

Wednesday Nov 14

Trail run 1:09:50 [2]
shoes: Asics Torana
Redmires and Stanage from Wyming Brook in the dark with Faye and Matt. Left at dusk but unfortunately just missed the sun set, lovely fresh evening to be out though.

Tuesday Nov 13

Trail run 1:03:00 [3]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Rivelin with some extra loops (down to the cafe) in the dark. A bit slow and a little cold in the wind but a lovely night for a run.

Monday Nov 12

Warm up/down 24:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
Circuits 36:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
ShUOC circuits. Tired on the cardio exercises this evening but okay on the rest. Still can't push enough to make it a hard session.

Sunday Nov 11

Orienteering race 59:40 [5]10.4 km (5:44 / km) +250m 5:07 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
Regional event in Cannock. Not my favorite place as it's fast and quite easy. had fun though and it was a nice day to be running. Tried to go straight where ever reasonable and found some nice forest and some not so nice! Ran well once warmed up and was happy with the time.
Warm up/down warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Saturday Nov 10

Event: Oxford City Race 2007

Orienteering race 34:39 [5]6.2 km (5:35 / km)
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Oxford city race. Quite a bit of fun, in some respects it was more interesting than I was expecting and in others less. Got to go some cool places but never saw them! Oxford is a very strange place, not like anywhere else I've visited, so well worth going. Race wise, it went pretty good apart from the only leg I didn't plan when I tried to head through an uncrossable wall as a number was hiding it. Lost about 30 seconds there, otherwise apart from no. 1 being hidden behind the door of a parker car and just not pushing hard enough in general, it was good. Finished third.
Warm up/down 30:00 [2]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110

Open Men - Splits

Friday Nov 9

Trail run 40:15 [3]
shoes: Asics Torana
Short Rivelin loop. Felt great and ran steady but comfortably so surprised with my best time for the loop by some way, ran the hills a bit harder but was never working hard. Why doesn't all training feel like this? Managed to get a run in the day light in as the university had expired - went in early to find that the university was still without electricity afters a "catastrophic power failure" yesterday evening according to the porter.
C • Rivelin 4

Thursday Nov 8

Road run 30:35 [3]
slept:6.0 weight:70kg shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Same run as Tuesday - out to Fulwood. Blustery tonight but the wind unusually spent most of its time behind me. Ran well and felt pretty good considering how far yesterday was,
Strength exercises 29:30 [4]

Wednesday Nov 7

Trail run 2:15:40 [3]25 km (5:26 / km)
shoes: Asics Torana
Long run with MikeS in the Peaks, according to him we went here: Parked at Redmires and went all the way along the conduit to the A57, Boots folly, Strines, Back Tor, Derwent Edge, Stanage Edge, Stanage Pole. Nice route, not as tough as last week aside from the last bit of the conduit which was knee high heather and into a strong, damp wind. A bit damp all around actually but it was nice for running and not all that cold. A bit tired for the last 15 minutes, but it was easy as the wind was behind us by then.

Tuesday Nov 6

Road run 31:10 [3]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Broomhill to Fulwood and up to Crosspool with Mat in the dark. Nice short loop and tidy enough pace. Cool but nice to be out in it.

Monday Nov 5

Circuits 36:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
Very tired and lethargic this evening, took it quite easy. Good job that I'm on for an easy week though.

Sunday Nov 4

Trail run 1:24:00 [3]16 km (5:15 / km) +450m 4:36 / km
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Inaugural weekend, long(ish) run on an absolutely amazing autumn day. From Hagg Farm up Win Hill, down to Ladybower and back over Crook Hill. Did the shortest route (with Danger and Rhodri for the first half) as I've done enough long runs over the past week. A bit tired but so happy to be out.

Saturday Nov 3

Orienteering 1:14:00 [3]
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
British Squad Inaugural weekend. Did a course from Hagg Farm up onto Kinder, damp in the morning but turning out nice. Long steady climb followed by a bit of peat hag running and then back down through the woods. Nice.
Orienteering 34:00 [2]
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
Shadowed Anne around a short course at Hagg Farm. Lovely bit of woodland and the sun now out. Tried to get Anne running a bit more and stopping less, think that her problem is more to do with fear of making a mistake while being shadowed though. Only one mistake and the rest was quite good.

Friday Nov 2

Road run 24:00 [3]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Run over to Shane and Fionne's for dinner. Nice evening and easy run as it's all downhill.
Road run 27:00 [3]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Not such an easy run back from Shane and Fionne's, somewhat slowed down by hills and a heavy tummy.

Thursday Nov 1

Intervals 22:00 [4]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
2-2-4 sides of the Park X 3. No strength after yesterday so only did them at 80%. Struggle to get out but glad I made the effort, even managed to get Matt to come along.
Warm up/down 17:00 [1]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Warm up and down and stretching in the Park for Intervals.
Road run 35:00 [2]
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Slow jog down and back to Endcliffe Park.
