Wednesday Apr 30

Warm up/down warm up/down 22:00 [2]3.5 km (6:17 / km)
Orienteering race 30:00 [4]4.6 km (6:31 / km)
SYO Spring Cup, Beeley Woods. A very enjoyable course and a much better evening than expected. I like running here, especially at this time of year before the vegetation grows up. No problems, although the map feels skew in plenty of places, just took it easy and used it as a test to see how I may be feeling for the weekend. Not great but not to bad is the probable answer. Will have to wait and see.

Easy circuit session. Have a slightly sore groin muscle from the ceilidh on Saturday so avoided a few of the exercises.

Sunday Apr 27

Orienteering race 35:00 [4]6.8 km (5:09 / km)
shoes: Asics Torana
Brad and Beccy?s wedding event ? Beccy had extended the map of Dunblane to include their house and we had a lovely run around the streets, alleys and parks of the city. Cracking day, sunny and warm and it was a lot of fun ? cheers for a great weekend guys.
Warm up/down 12:00 [2]2 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Asics Torana
Jog around the woods behind Brad and Beccy?s house. Gorgeous bit of wood ? needs to be added to the new map!
C • And you're just the man to map it! 1

Saturday Apr 26

Trail run 40:00 [2]6 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: Asics Torana
Pre-wedding jog with Brad, Jase and Janine. Up the hill behind their place to the Gathering Stone. Slow and easy thankfully as it was right after breakfast.

Warm up/down 12:00 [2]1.9 km (6:19 / km)
Orienteering race 55:00 [3]7 km (7:51 / km)
Surprise View. Cracking evening and an interesting course - saw plenty of Burbage that I haven't seen before. My body on the other hand wasn't so keen, back to feeling really rubbish, so strength at all. Shoes were also nearly dead and I both orienteered like a numpty and had trouble finding quite a few of the flags (although some were suspectly located).
Orienteering 30:00 [2]3.8 km (7:54 / km)
Collected a few controls, missed the ShUOC AGM in the process but it was far to nice an evening (and they are very rare at the moment) not to be out in the hills.

ShUOC circuits. Rare (only?) appearance by camel this evening, will it become a habit? Took it easy myself, especially on the cardio exercises. Not many around so very relaxed - MikeS cried off with some excuse or other.

Sunday Apr 20

Event: British Relays

Orienteering race 40:33 [5]6.8 km (5:58 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
BEOC Relays, Mens premier with ShUOC, third leg with Will and Danger. Will was a bit wiped out from yesterday but had a steady run, Danger must have pulled up a few places as I only saw Dave Peel and we finished 6th overall, decent but not great result, but we were never going to be challenging for the top. Tired but not exhausted and again was feeling stronger as the course went on, also found the map much easier to interpret today, especially the fine detail.
Looking through the results 4 of the top 6 teams had identical gaffeling throughout the whole relay ? how poor is that on the part of the controller??? (and a bit unfair to the two teams who had to go there own way!)
Warm up/down 10:00 [2]1.2 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
Warm up, forgot to warm down.

Saturday Apr 19

Event: British Long Champs

Orienteering race 1:37:57 [4]15.7 km (6:14 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
BEOC Classic, Culbin. Scrappy race technically (far too many mistakes) but happy with the way I ran physically after the past few weeks. Stated off slow as I didn?t want to die again, but didn?t get into the interpretation of the fine detail at all and lost 45 seconds at both 2 and 3 and a further two minutes at 8 when Nails caught me 6 minutes (somewhat annoyed there as I found a control on a feature that was obscured by the control circle ? this is turning to a pet hate of mine and a common cause of lost time, and the most frustrating thing is how easy it is to cut the circle). Didn?t try and stay with Nails and bumbled along for the next few km before realising that I was actually feeling good and should actually run harder. Finished feeling strong and with plenty of energy but with another two minutes lost in the green. Great area for running, very clean and fast and straight was great. Amazing time from OJ, but wish that I had been a bit closer.

Note
(rest day)
Long drive north for BEOC.

Thursday Apr 17

Trail run 55:00 [2]9 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
Headed up to Redmires to run along to High Neb in the snow, but there was harrdly any up there and none further into the Peaks - it all fell on the eastern slopes. Enough around to be very wet and get cold feet though. Did a loop through the forest at the start which was more open than I was expecting, was completely energyless from yesterdays short run though.

Wednesday Apr 16

Orienteering race 42:20 [4]6.8 km (6:14 / km)
SYO Spring cup in Tankersley. Despite an easy few days I still had no real strength and was starting to find the course a long way. A few scrappy mistakes but mostly okay and I can still run at an okay pace but it just feels wrong. OJ, Craney and Nails around in just over 40.
Warm up/down warm up/down 10:00 [2]1.6 km (6:15 / km)
Warm up around the woods with Danger.
Warm up/down warm up/down 5:00 [2]0.7 km (7:09 / km)
Very gentle warm down with Camel and Danger.

Tuesday Apr 15

Climbing 45:00 [1]
1.5 hours at the Works. Haven't been in weeks and mt hands are now sore and my fingers tired. Managed a few blacks before Chris so happy with that :)

Saturday Apr 12

Trail run 43:10 [3]9 km (4:48 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco 10 WR
Rivelin. Dry but tracks are well sticky. Ran reasonably but still didn't feel like I would have survived had I run hard. Saw a random runner (who looked like an old, short and fat Al Buckley (or is it just fatherhood?)), do I get myself any points for that?
C • nope 1
Strength exercises 24:00 [4]

Friday Apr 11

Trail run 1:30:00 [2]14.5 km (6:12 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco 10 WR
Started off with Matt as he set off to attempt to run a marathon on the trails of Rivelin, Stanege and Burbage. Left him on top of Stannington and dropped down into Loxley to take photos for my project. Rained all the time I did that and I got real cold so actually quite glad of the huge hike straight up out of Rivelin to get home.
Road bike 45:00 [2]16.3 km (2:46 / km)
Set off with a few from ShUOC for an afternoon cycle, however as soon as we got to the top of Fulwood Lane it hailed rocks and was most unpleasant. Hid behind a wall for a while and then called it a day as we were frozen, returned the same way. Easy pace with plenty of stops aside from a few hills. Was good to get out but a shame about the minging weather.

Thursday Apr 10

Note
(rest day)
Intended to do an easy run and some strength work but got held up in university.

Wednesday Apr 9

Orienteering 59:20 [3]8 km (7:25 / km)
Went out to do a technical session with Danger in Tankersley. As I was the only one to run there earlier in the year we only had the one map so did a directing exercise - mostly getting Danger to tell me where to run. He started of rubbish but then got the hang of it until he got a bit messy at the end again. Nice session and good to be out in the terrain. Feeling pretty good at the slow pace but not too sure that it would have been so much fun running hard at all.

Tuesday Apr 8

Trail run 1:07:00 [3]13.1 km (5:07 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco 10 WR
Stanage in the evening, lovely to be out. From Wyming Brook around Redmires, up to High Neb and back via the headstone. Felt reasonably going at a steady pace but am more tired than I should be now.
Note
What's happening to the ranking on here? Everyone from Sheffield is in free fall. Are the Americans worried that British Orienteering is too strong or have we all just become rubbish???
C • Now you mention it 6

Monday Apr 7

Circuits 45:00 [4]
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
Surprisingly small turnout for first week back in term, plenty of space though. Felt better than I was expecting and managed the usual level in most exercises.

Sunday Apr 6

Event: British Sprint Championships

Orienteering race 15:18 [4]2.9 km (5:17 / km)
shoes: Inov8
BEOC Sprint. Warick University. Qualifier. Should have stayed in bed. Got delayer on the motorway by cars crashing in the snow, then got lost looking for the event, then got lost looking for the toilets, then got lost on the way to the start, unsurprisingly I got lost on the way to one as well! Very scrappy at the start - no focus - and dropped 30 seconds by number 4, however I then completely went to sleep and came out of the small block of wood completely the wrong way and lost over a minute. From then on I had lost any motivation that I had had and the course was monumentally boaring. Plenty of emit units on the ground again. Nowhere getting into the A final which I could just about have made with a clean run. Was a nice morning with a covering of snow though.
Orienteering race 14:59 [5]3 km (5:00 / km)
shoes: Inov8
BEOC Sprint B final. Warwick University. Much better than this morning, more focus and better running, although it was a better area and more interesting course. Nearly got caught out but a blocked passage on the way to 3 but was otherwise quite clean. However the 15 seconds lost there was enough to let Boyzone beat me. Will have to retire now.
C • beaten by a boy band! 1
Warm up/down 25:00 [2]3 km (8:20 / km)
shoes: Inov8
Didn't do enough of this today, especially warming down.

Saturday Apr 5

Event: British Elite Middle Distance

Orienteering race 38:43 [5]6.5 km (5:57 / km) +230m 5:04 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
BEOC Middle champs. Hopwas. Not a bad area for the midlands, reasonably runnable forest with some short steep hills with a few thicker sections. Starter well and manged to keep OJ behind (my two minute man) until 16. Not so good after that though as I felt weak and made a few bad rout choices. Shouldn't be feeling this tired in such a short race.
Would have been happy with my result (6th) though had emit not failed to record my finish, meaning that I was given a 10 minute split on the run-in (time to download) :( I hate emit - loads of units were on the ground and I even managed to cut my finger on one of the spikes for marking the backup card (which i didn't get given). I hate emit.

Still resting to see if it will make a difference on the weekend.

Thursday Apr 3

Road run 27:00 [2]4.5 km (6:00 / km)
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Jog down and back to/from the orienteering and a wee bit between the loops.
Orienteering 23:00 [3]6 km (3:50 / km)
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
A very fun sprint training session on a smashing evening with the Sheffield possy. Still not a lot in my legs but I was happy enough running around at the back of the group. Apparently I also got 2 points, although does it count if I didn't know who I saw? (I'm already at a severe disadvantage here as I not only don't know any Sheffield runners, but I don't know Mr Hargreaves or Mr Furness either - it's going to take quite some time to get that gold certificate).
Note
Some lucky stalker is going to be my 5000 visitor either tomorrow or Saturday. Do I get any bonus points for that? (It's taken nearly as long to get to that total as it will to get my gold certificate)

Wednesday Apr 2

Note
(rest day)
Still taking it easy but also still feeling quite tired on the walk in and out of university.

Tuesday Apr 1

Note
(rest day)
Going to take it propperly easy this week and see if I can get my energy levels back to where they should be, so no exercise today.
