Warm up/down 20:00 [2]3 km (6:40 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons
Warm up jog with Danger and warm down with Danger and Boyzone.
Orienteering race 36:12 [4]4.6 km (7:52 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcons
SYO Spring Cup, Loxley. Excellent course by OJ with some good routes and plenty of features that I haven't seen before. Missed a bit in the rocky area before the Edge both times in and didn't think the map best represented the ground shape at 2. Had fun though and ran pretty strongly for the effort.

Circuits 45:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
Easy set of ShUOC circuits (that is I took it easy, not that the exercises were easy)

Sunday May 18

Orienteering race 1:11:11 [5]11.2 km (6:21 / km)
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
Harvester, Some forest in the south. Not a bad place (aside form very suspect vegetation mapping (did anyone see a distinct vegetation change???) - very happy not to have run in the dark!) and a pretty good night and lovely morning. Ran last leg for ShUOC so was up early in the sun. Ran quite well and was very happy to catch the two teams in front by about 7 and 10 minutes or so (one being FVO...) on the climbs in the last loop to finish 4th. Really enjoyed the run but was a little tired after yesterdays madness.

Event: Harvester Trophy Weekend

Event: JOK Chasing Sprint

Orienteering 25:37 [5]4.6 km (5:34 / km) +170m 4:42 / km
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
JOK chasing Sprint, Bloom Wood. Prologue. Fast and pretty easy, although it was a nice wood. Had no problems aside form number two (in a small depression) being on the ground and I couldn't see it, lost about 40 seconds. Otherwise just not fast enough and was nearly 4 minutes down on a very brisk Nails and in 13th place.
Orienteering race 23:05 [5]4 km (5:46 / km) +115m 5:03 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
JOK Chasing Sprint. Final. Bloom Wood. Mad pack hunting. Caught and got caught very quickly so was in a small pack from the start. Missed three but so did others, so caught the pack of three in front and another one or two from behind caught up. Struggle to keep up in the fast easy bits and got pulled off line on the long leg and got stuck in green. Got out the other side to reassemble the train but now with a few more carriages on the back. Got passed by a few more on the way to the spectator but then the engine and first few carriages took a path route and I decided to cut the corner, it worked, got to the control first which was very useful as it turned into a massive pile-on! Hesitated slightly going into the 3rd last control (the thicket was slight to the right of where it should have been) by about 2 seconds which was enough to lose two places and have to fight for the single punch. Got the paces back by cutting the track bed to the second last but again had to fight for the single punch and lost the places back again. Had no speed for the final sprint so dropped another place to finish 12th.
Not an especially clean run and it hurt quite a bit, but fun nonetheless.
Warm up/down warm up/down 25:00 [2]4 km (6:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
Mostly warm up (getting to the starts) and a little jogging afterwards.

Road run 30:00 [1]4 km (7:30 / km)
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Feeling well tired so didn't do much today, jogged down to intervals with Matt, watched everyone kill themselves going up and down a very steep section of hill and then jogged back very slowly.

Wednesday May 14

Warm up/down 10:00 [2]1.5 km (6:40 / km)
Jog With Matt before the orienteering.
Orienteering race 41:20 [3]6.2 km (6:40 / km)
Eccy Woods event. Managed to get Chris and Matt out to join me - they both did very well in a pretty difficult area, although Matt was getting very frustrated and getting lost every time he tried to run (which was all he wanted to do). I took it very easy myself, didn't feel like running hard so didn't! No real problems other than when a surfaced path caught me out as it wasn't mapped so, lost about a minute there (had no compass so spent a while trying to line things up) and aside from taking an age to punch the map each control, no other problems. It's great to orienteer on OJ's map - everything looks how you expect it to and is where you want it to be.
Warm up/down warm up/down 10:00 [1]1 km (10:00 / km)
Very easy cool down jog with OJ and Nails.

Warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
Circuits 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel GT 1120 07
ShUOC circuits. Body tired so took it very easy, especially on the cardio exercises. Not many around this evening, which was good as it was hot enough as it was.
Mountain Bike 1:45:00 [2]28.5 km (3:41 / km)
Chris talked Matt and me into joining him on a bike ride, so headed out to Stanedge pole, down the rocky track to the Buck stone and back over Burbage bridge, a loop in Lady Canning's and back across to Lodge Moor. Yet another beautiful evening so had to go and and knew the pace would be easy. Was a lot of craic with plenty of stops and messing around. Still tired though.
C • Found a third bike? Did you... 2

Sunday May 11

Trail run 1:15:00 [3]12.9 km (5:49 / km)
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Such a cracking day (again) so decided that a visit to the Peak was in order, headed out with Matt and started from Ladybower, ran across the dam and along the flat(ish) road on it's southern bank. That was all I was wanting as I felt pretty tired but Matt was keen for more so when we got to the far end and headed into the forest, a visit to Win Hill seemed inevitable. Still felt stiff but decided to pay Matt back by making him suffer a bit so cranked up the pace for about a km on the climb until he was well demoralised... (sorry for the pain Matt :) ). Beautiful but a bit busy up on top and worth the effort in getting out (avoiding project work more than I can afford) - even saw a WW2 bomber fly over Ladybower.

Saturday May 10

Mountain Bike 1:45:00 [3]25 km (4:12 / km)
Had to get out in the sun so dusted off (literally) the mountain bike and headed for the woods with Matt. Headed down to Hillsborough and out up into Greno woods, did a loop there before crossing a doing a loop in Wharncliffe and then back through Beeley before the big climb back up to Crookes. Some great trails and a great time of year to cycle them, the forest was amazing with lush green beech leaves, fresh grass and bluebells. Way better than working on my special project!

Friday May 9

Trail run 1:07:00 [2]11.2 km (5:59 / km)
shoes: Ascis Gel GT 2110
Went exploring up Loxley with Matt, found some nice bits of woods and plenty of contours, then got lost in Stannington on the way back. Still well beat from last weekend so was very slow, especially on hills.

Orienteering race 31:20 [4]4.5 km (6:58 / km)
Greno Woods, SYO Spring Cup. Wonderful evening, beautiful for running and the brambles and bracken weren't too bad yet. Ran steady without pushing and was happy to have quite a bit of strength after the weekend.
Warm up/down warm up/down 15:00 [2]2 km (7:30 / km)

Well tired from the weekend, so a lazy day for me.

Monday May 5

Orienteering race 33:16 [5]5.2 km (6:24 / km) +205m 5:21 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
IOC Bere Island. Middle. Not the best course, had too much gratuitous climb and several dodgy control sites (the controls were in the right place (or nearly) but the map just wasn't accurate enough). Very happy to run quite well and keep going up the hills as I was pretty tired after yesterday. A few hesitations on the last two where the map was less than perfect so it was useful, having caught ndobbs, to let him do a bit of the work :). Ondrej was once again too strong finishing a minute clear, but I'm happy to finish the weekend without being beaten by any genuine Irish runners :)

Sunday May 4

Orienteering race 30:00 [5]4.7 km (6:23 / km) +245m 5:04 / km
shoes: VJ Falcon 07
IOC Bere island. Relays. Ran third leg with Boyzone and Colm O'Halloran. Boyzone had a good solid start coming back just behind David Healy of GEN, he then handed over to Tero for Colm to chase, despite not quite having the pace Colm managed to stay in touch with a good route choice on a long leg and got to the finish to send me out only seconds behind. Managed to keep with Ondrej up the hill (just) and again got a better route on the long leg to keep in touch, but I then didn't have the strength up the final climb allowing GEN the victory.
Good exciting relay and a beautiful day and made better by the fact that we were all quite well matched, but a shame that instead of gaffeling we just had three quite different courses with a few common controls and of course GEN and us ran them in the same order.

IOC, Bere Island. Long. Good to be back in West Cork and in real terrain, although Bere island is a little faster and steeper than my favourite areas. Weather mostly behaved part from a short but heavy rain/hail shower towards the end of my run. Started off slow as I was a bit concerned about how I?d cope, but felt good on the first hill so decided to push on. Ran well throughout and kept a good pace until the end, controls were all visible so lost no time on them, did stray off the line a few times, but only lost seconds. Very happy with the way I ran, navigated and with my result.

Still in recovery mode. Bottom of left heel tender today, can't think of any event yesterday that would have caused it to be so.
