Note

As I had more comments on my weight at the JK than on my fitness... I was 69.1kg last thing on Friday evening (after a rest day, the heaviest I've been in ages). After a sleep I was 1.2km lighter (67.9kg)... After a run I was 66.8kg. So More sleep seems to be the way forward...

Cracking loop of the Black Mountain with Chris and Ake, mostly new terrain for me which is always a bonus. Really good running under foot so plenty of route options, also had a lovely tail wind for the first 70 minutes of climbing. Win. Some pretty gusted bits along the tops and when we dropped down off the north side of the ridge (this was the windiest place despite it being a southerly wind!).

Easy pace but felt really good throughout, another hour wouldn't have been a bother. Endurance and strength seem to be pretty good at the moment, just need some speed (if I can keep this going I'm going to have a heavy bag for the Highlander ;-) ).

Went exploring a hill outside Ponty that always looks interesting from the A470. It was as well, but not as big as it looks, however managed to link it up with an unmapped path along an old railway and a a few footpaths to make a nice loop. Until the last bit anyway, looked like a lovely path along a stream on the map but I must have been the first person in over a year to use it. Out about half an hour longer than planned but the pace was slow and the sun was out.

IW. Saw an epic crash between two cyclist. One guy had just past me (a rare event, he was moving quite well) when we went though an underpass. As he was exiting another guy took the blind corner into the underpass from the opposite end. Both were in the middle. Obvious conclusion. But quite spectacular due to the speed. Surprised that cyclist #1 wasn't hurt as he hit the ground a decent speed and landed n a log. Cyclist #2 was hardly moving at the time so just got knocked over. Cyclist #1 wasn't very happy but was surprisingly restrained and after a minute of checking things over and mumblings everyone was good to get on with things. Always thought that approaching the underpass from the blind side was an accident waiting to happen.

HFW. Glad to be done for the week. Actually the shortest that I've done in a while but it felt like a long one.

HFW. Strong head wind made for difficult progress, the extra couple of minutes that it caused ensured that I was out long enough to get dumped on by a heavy shower at the end.

HFW. First cycle of the year in shorts and t-shirt. Left earlier than usual in order to make the MDC run this evening, frustrating amount of slow cyclists and pedestrians in the way - they're not around if it's raining!

MDC run up Cribyn and Pen y Fan from Cwm Gwdi. If I wasn't the run organiser, if it wasn't such a nice evening, if I couldn't get out of work in time and if I couldn't share a lift there was no way I would have done this! However everything worked out and I'm very glad that I did make it. Legs were powerless but I chugged away up most of the climbs (had to walk the rib up to Cribyn) and took the downhills gentle. Stunning sunset from Pen y Fan.
