| I actually wanted to take part on a ETHZ study which examines the influence of green tea on body's fat burning ability but at the end I was not allowed due to my thyroxin issue. Anyway, I could still do the VO2max test for free (which ususally costs CHF 300.-).
The test protocol was as follows: 5min warm-up@ 90 Watt, start with 95 W, an increase of 35W every 3 minutes. I had to cease in the middle of the 340W level, so a maximum of 5.5W/kg weight. As a comparison; Amstrong's maximum VO2max performance is 600 Watt, or 8.5 Watt/kg. he can maintain 6.8W/kg for 20min. So I only have about 65% of Lance's power. But clean... ;-) Comparison 2; the performance of Floyd Landis when he attacked on that "epic" stage: "Attacking about a quarter of the way up the Col des Saisies for 30 seconds at 544 watts, which settled into a 5-minute peak of 451 watts, which continued for 10 minutes at an average of power of 431 watts, and left everyone in his dust after 30 minutes at an average power of 401 watts." Michele Ferrari, also known as "Dottore EPO", said that the magic number for Tour contenders is 6.7 Watts per kilogram of body weight on the lactate treshold. I will get the detailed tests results later on but the VO2max was around 58ml/min/kg. I'm a bit disappointed with this figure but it just reflects my current (poor) condition. Apparently, the VO2max values are lower on cycling ergometers than on treadmills. While searching the web for articles on VO2max, I found this interesting quote: "Miguel Indurain's VO2 max, according to a widespread rumor, was 95 milliliters per kilogram of body weight per minute, a level so high it is unheard of. The real number was 78, Dr. Coyle said, but researchers who tested Mr. Indurain were reluctant to put the true figure in their paper for fear of demolishing the Indurain myth."

| had an appointment with the doctor to discuss my new blood test. Hmmm, this visit has only further strenghtend my bad perception of doctors...
The outcoome was that the doctor hasn't seen any irrgularities and has no idea on what I suffer. Her attempts were like the following: "You are very tall and thin and have a very low rest HR, hence your brain doesn't get so much blood what might cause your tiredness and dizzyness." "You should do more training for your upper body in order to increase the blood circulation in the upper body." No comment. However, I think that there are some irregularities: for example, my haematocrit level has dropped from 42 (3 weeks ago) to now 39.9% even though I have spent 7 days in high altitude. my normal level is around 44-45% What the doctor said to that: "Your level is only 0.1% below the range, so nothing to worry about". But i'm not an averaged trained person and 2nd have spent some considerable time on altitude... My ferrum level is still very low, also the haemoglobin, just a bit everything what relates to blood and blood production. The 2nd striking thing is my too high Cortisol level, the doctor hasn't actually realized it, but that was exactly sth my other doctor was pressuming. Fact is that I'm definitively not fine, nevertheless, i have currently no idea what I should do in a next step. Maybe just wait and pray.
| Note | ||
| Was also visiting the accupuncture therapist. The therapist suspects that my engine is empty and therefore I always feel bad. Will do a body check next week to see if all organs are working properly. | ||

| The intention was to go for a longer bike ride but it rained several times during the day so I went for a run with mum and dad in Buechberg. Don't remember when I was in Buechberg for the last time. I was surprised about my parent's shape, really good! I felt bad towards the end of the run, dizzy and tired. | ||
